I am planning on buying a new tv for my bedroom. I am debating between the Samsung 4065, the Samsung 4069fx, and Sony KDL-40V2500. The 4069fx has 120hz, and costs about $250 more than the others. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with any of these tvs, and if you would recommend the purchase. I'm definitely going with a 40", right now the room has a 32" Samsung 720p LCD and I want something a little bigger with 1080p. The Samsungs both have great contrast ratios, but Samsung always exaggerates on contrast ratio. The Samsungs also have 1 more HDMI input, but I use an HDMI switch because I have 4 HDMI devices. I will use the tv for a little PS3 gaming, but mostly watching tv, blu-ray on my PS3, and a little HD-DVD on an a-35. Thanks for the help.

I have 4 hdmi for the bedroom, a PS3, HD DVR, a-35, and upconverting DVD player. The only reason I still use the upconverting DVD player is because I'm watching the DVD of Lost Season 2 and I want to be able to be able to stop watching an episode and resume it later at the same point which can't be done on any of the other devices without leaving the power on. I'd love to go with the Sony Bravia but I don't think it's worth an extra $600 over the Samsung considering this is a bedroom tv. When I decide to upgrade my living room tv I might consider a Bravia.

i have the 40xbr4 from sony. its a great tv especially with the 1080p. i dont use the 120hz with blu-ray because it looks funky, but i use it a lot with dvds and cable tv. i would say its worth the money, unless your just going to be using it with blu-ray

i got the samsung 4669 and I like the 120htz. Some people will not like it as it makes some TV look like a soapopera or newscast. On the sammy you can yurn off the 120htz though. Igame, watch blu ray and alot of HD and regular TV and it all looks good.

When I bought the Sharp 46" 120hz LCD a couple of days ago the sales guy told me I had to get the 120hz-certified HDMI cable. I ignored him and bought a cheaper off-brand cable.
But was he right? Do you really need a 120hz-certified HDMI cable to get full use of the 120hz? Of course, this was the same sales guy who didn't understand my question when I asked if his store was going to stop carrying HD DVD. P.S. The Sharp 120hz LCD was for my mom. And even though it's very nice, I have yet to find an LCD/plasma with a better picture than my Sony SXRD. Real shame they've discontinued them. Last edited by bluperch; 01-31-2008 at 05:07 PM. |

120hz is the reason i got a new LCD TV. I remember walking down the aisle of Sears and suddenly there were about 8 people standing in front of this TV with their jaws opened. At first i thought it was a showcase of "backdoor sluts part 9" but it was the Blu Ray "the day after tomorrow" in full 120hz. It was as I had been blind all my life and i finally got my sight back.

I have the KDL 40V2500 and I think it works out great. If you are interested I have seen it priced at Fry's electronics for $1099 several times. Check out the ads if you are interested.

I agree. With my KDS-55A3000, I only use 120Hz set on "High" when playing video games and sometimes when watching sports. For Blu-ray playback and DirecTV, at most it's on "Standard."

I use High 120 for sports. For BD it's standard. I'm mixed on games. When I set to high 120 for PS3 games I get some interesting artifacts. I'm going to give it a try when I hook up my gaming PC soon though. |

i'm weary of 120...i have a friend that used to keep his refresh rate real high on his computer monitor and got so used to it that he can see the screen flashing on the normal 60 monitors...i wouldn't want that to ever happen

You probably won't like the fact that they have 240hz TVs in development then!

to all those with a sony a3000 - talking about standard and high for certain things....you do know that the cinemotion is another variable in the motion equation right? - auto1 and auto2....when i first got my tv i wanted to show everyone the full effect of the motion capabilities of the tv so i had it on auto1/high...which is overkill..can you imagine watching cloverfield with that setting LOL...so after having the tv for a few months, i now use auto2/high for both BDs and TV....auto1 can look terrible on BDs...sometimes it looks fine (mostly with standard, but high creates problems - almost ripping the image apart)....but to my eyes there was always a slight loss of detail using auto1......i think auto2/high is incredible....it gives you that slight bit of added motion for butter smooth action, but keeps all the details....people come over and are amazed....just thought i would throw that out there...so theres really 5 motion settings on these tvs, not 3
