Amazon pre-order shipping; ON or AFTER the release date?

Just out of curiousity, when you preorder a BD from Amazon does it ship on the release date or does it ship so that you receive it on the release date? Apple does the latter, which I love; however, I'm kind of doubting Amazon does too.

Depends on where you live. I've been getting mine by Friday/Sat of the same week. Now that I have Amazon Prime, the day after release.

They generally ship mine the Monday before.

I usually request next day shipping so I get the dvd on tuesday,the release day

Even with Amazon Prime. I have never received any pre-orders on release date, always get them two days after.

If you live overseas, DVDPacific will ship as soon as they have them (eg, prior to release date). I don't think Amazon does though (never happened to me)

Yep, Amazon does it too! For example Amazon shipped my Hairspray (SD-DVD) 9 days before actual release date!
Of course having chosen the slowest shipping method I received it 4 days after official release date but that isn't bad at all.

I, like many others pre-ordered LOST season 3 on Blu-ray from Amazon, about 3 months in advance, and even chose to pay more for 1-day shipping. It was a disaster. On December 11th (release date) I kept checking my account throughout the day to see if it shipped. It didn't. Same thing next day. Then in the late afternoon I got an e-mail saying it was "delayed" for FIVE WEEKS, and hours later (not immediately) the product page was suddenly "out of stock." Needless to say, I cancelled my pre-order and bought it at Best Buy, plus tax, minus shipping, it was cheaper than Amazon anyway.
Then, to add insult to injury, the next day I read the Amazon forums and some customers who placed their orders LONG after mine and selected FREE shipping (whereas I intended to pay more for 1-day shipping) had already received theirs in the mail. WTF?!?

1) They have NO priority system for filling orders.
2) They take more pre-orders than they can fill.
3) They continue taking orders after they KNOW they're out of stock.
4) They blocked all customer reviews in the 4 days following this whole fiasco.

Incidentally, most customers received their Blu-rays about a week and a half later instead of 5 weeks, but that is still inexcusable. Will I still order from Amazon? Yes. I like the reviews, low prices, and BOGOs. Will I pre-order from Amazon? Only if it's not something I want in a timely manner, and even then, I'd explore several other options first.
