I bring them over to my house and put on a movie. If they don't see the difference, I scoop their eyes out with a rusty spoon.

All so far have seen the difference.

have them watch 2 blu rays in a row (even bad transfers) and then try and watch a dvd...if they don't have trouble watching the dvd they need glasses. but they will.

You can tell someone all you want how great blu is, but until they see it, they will probably just buy a dvd upconverter. People need to experience for themselves how great blu is. Have them over and watch a movie. On the plus side, at least your friends are not buying HD DVD

get a big stick and hit them over the head, then show them a standard dvd while their vision is still blurry, once its cleared show them Blu and they will never go back. What I would do, is demo a standard dvd in the blu player (I have a ps3 so I know it upconverts), then pop in blu version. I would demo Casino Royale or Planet Earth or Cars etc.... If they cant see a difference, well than try the stick again.

+1 Well, I can certainly tell a difference between the picture quality of Blu-ray and upconverted dvd's. I think it's quite obvious TBH.

You could just buy them a movie in blu. Then when they ask why it doesn't work in a dvd player, play dumb. I didn't know they still made dvd's.

It is certainly a bittersweet, double edged sword. Isn't it? On one hand, we don't have to worry about our quality products getting damaged or going missing. On the bad side, this attitude effectively supports the lack of adoption rates.

a rusty spoon seems a little harsh doesnt it? I would just offer them some glasses... or a great deal on lasik, whatever your hookup may be! haha

The best way is for them to experience a top notch Blu-ray on a calibrated setup. In my experience the people that can't see the difference usually are viewing on a poorly setup display which obscures the difference between Blu-ray and dvd. Bring them to your place and let them watch a reference transfer like Mr. Brooks or Cars. If they don't see and hear a difference at that point then they don't want to see a difference. Remember that many average consumers are reluctant to replace their dvds.

Sometimes I wish I had side by side displays.
The difference to me is night and day, but I'm VERY visually oriented.
I've had people that I've shown blu ray to insist they don't see a difference.

There is so much more detail and color depth that it just doesn't compare.

I don't see HD-DVD as Competition, but more of a Nuisance now. DVD is the Enemy, and Digital Downloads are the ones to beat to beating the Enemy
