BD50
COLOR - 80 Minutes
ORIGINAL ASPECT RATIO - 2.35:1

"CinemaScope’s first science-fiction thriller” sees four intrepid astronauts (Hugh Marlowe, Nelson Leigh, Rod Taylor and Christopher Dark) successfully complete mankind’s first Mars mission, only to run afoul of a warp in space. Tossed centuries into the future, they discover an Earth devastated by nuclear war, where mutant beast-men rule the surface. Underground is a society marked by listless males and lustful ladies (future- wear designed by Vargas!). Trapped in a tomorrow they never made, the four astronauts take on the mutant and the malicious while fighting to bring humanity back to the surface.

Ohhhhh. Day one!

I've been wanting this on Blu-ray since I first bought a Blu-ray player. Here's to a lot of beautiful women in short skirts. This is one of the most absurdly fun movies out there.

Now we need Queen of Outer Space. It seemed to be a universal formula from that era-either visit a new planet or discover a lost civilization on this one and you'll find gorgeous women in skimpy outfits!

I could barely make it through Queen of Outer Space, Cat-Women of the Moon (much as I adore Ms. Windsor) or Fire Maidens of Outer Space, so I'm a bit leery of another 'Space Skirt' movie (to coin a phrase). Plus I find both Hugh Marlowe and Rod Taylor quite irksome. So we shall see. (I'll have to read Bill Warren's thoughts first, as this is one of the few films in his book that I haven't watched before.)

Oh yeah, I can't stand those either except on MST3K. I think what really turned me against them forever was watching "Invasion of the Star Creatures" on the Invasion of the Bee Girls DVD. Definitely one of the most painful film experiences I've had. "The Mole People" has something in common with those, too, and that's probably the LEAST bad of the genre I've seen.

I'll have to read about this one, too.

Always down for more 50s sci-fi, regardless of cheesiness.

I seem to recall that the MST3K crew really wanted to do the film as part of Season 7. However, Warner Bros. wouldn't give them the rights (they had divested their interest in the series by this point*) and the season got cut down to six episodes (and the movie).

However, I believe there was a live riffing during one of the conventions.

* - HBO co-produced some of the earlier seasons with Best Brains.

Since this release will be barebones, it would have been nice if they had offered this as a double-bill with QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE.

But obviously will be buying it, anyway! I'm glad they're putting it out.

I guess you mean IT (no exclamation mark) with Roddy McDowell? Because IT! (as in, THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE) is already on Blu-ray.

And as already stated, QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE would have made a nice double feature with WORLD WITHOUT END. But given the limited market for these, I guess I can't blame them for releasing them separately (assuming we will get QUEEN eventually).

And yeah, GREEN SLIME would be epic! After VALLEY OF GWANGI, that might be my next most-wanted WAC title.

Not that it matters but there is an exclamation point next to the movie, but yes I mean It! or It with Roddy McDowell

Queen of Outer Space is goofy fun but I think World Without End is a better film which isnt saying much, but it does have more creatures. The same spider puppet is used in both films, except WWE is in has mutated people as well I remember watching both back to back last year.
The Valley of Gwangi, The Black Scorpion and The Green Slime I have higher hopes for. They also have From Hell It Came, The Giant Behemoth, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and The Cyclops. They could do a SPFX II set if they wanted to

QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE is also in color, and it is the same spider puppet. I think a different spider puppet was used for MISSILE TO THE MOON, a cheaper B&W production.

I stand corrected! I have the Warner double-feature DVD (with SHUTTERED ROOM), and the artwork there does not have an exclamation point! But the title is listed that way on the back of the case! My apologies! (Did I get enough exclamation marks in there?!?!)

LOL!

(I haven't watched this movie in a while. I sense a viewing coming up very shortly!)

I've still got this DVD set with Them!, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, World Without End, and Satellite in the Sky.

As soon as Satellite in the Sky is released on Blu-ray, I'll have all four films in the format, and I can retire this box set.

Of course, Satellite in the Sky is the cinematic weak link of the set, so I'm not exactly holding my breath for the inevitable Blu-ray.

World Without End = Day-one buy.

I would still love to see the following films on blu:

Tarantula, The Deadly Mantis, The Thing, The Monolith Monsters, I Married a Monster from Outer Space, War of the Worlds, The Giant Claw, The Werewolf, Target Earth, X-the Unknown, The Crawling Eye, Cult of the Cobra (technically not sci-fi, but still great)...

Any or all of these films on blu – with SDH – are immediate buys in my book.

I have a soft spot for old b&w science fiction. There are a handful that are "terrible", in my opinion, and I have no desire to add them to my library (like The Phantom Planet). But those are the exception. Most are quite enjoyable and represent a wonderful by-gone era.

Tarantula and the Monolith Monsters have Blu-rays overseas/Germany..others are with labels that are sitting on them such as The Crawling Eye , that one is with Wade Williams. Studio Canal has X, The Unknown. I can tell you War of the Worlds does have HD master, so it's a matter of time Id speculate.
