I look at my Firefly DVD boxset and the logo on it is 20th Century Fox... so Firefly is a very strong possibility on Blu. Serenity, on the other hand, is Universal...

Amazon creates placeholders based on searches, they mean nothing

Fox is very well aware of the desire for Firefly, and the fact that the set has sold close to a million copies, and is an evergreen title for them hasn't hurt one bit.

It's definately on a short list, but may be delayed to tie in with Serenity 2 (if it happens, apparently negotiations are back on due to the DVD selling about 10 million copies)

Thanks for information, Wicky. Count me among those that can't wait for these on Blu-ray. Big fan of the series, as well as the movie. Really hoping that Serenity 2 gains some momentum, and gets off the ground.

Excellent news. I didn't think that Serenity tied up enough of the loose ends (some left over from the TV series, Firefly). For example, what was Shepard Book's back story? How did his credentials let him get medical treatment?

Roll on Firefly and Serenity in Blu! (Note Universal: In the case of Serenity, you'd better do a decent job of the re-encode, otherwise you'll not be getting my ruttin' money! A simple port of the HD DVD will not be sufficient.)

I have been itching to watch Serenity on DVD, but it has been hard to watch DVDs now so I am thinking I will wait for the Blu.

matrix, V, Serenity, bourne trilogy are six reasons to drop $180 on an hd-dvd player. Get 10 free movies in the meantime. No waiting for months or a year plus for the release on blu-ray. HdDVD finally dies, replace one of your old dvd players with the A3. Almost makes too much sense, really. This extreme loyalty to one format over the other leads to missing out on quality hi-def films in the interim, which is just ridiculous.

I thought that Shepard Book was formerly a parliament agent, similar to the one played by Mr. Ejiorfor in Serenity. While it was never outright said that this was his past, it was certainly implied.

Also, Serenity on hd-dvd doesn't exactly look bad. Granted, I watched it on a friend's 37 inch 720p tv, so maybe when you get it on a serious tv, such as my Bravia XBR-2 or similar models of competing brands, it may fall flat as compared to some of the better blu-rays. Either way, if Serenity got proper treatment on blu-ray, I have no doubts that it would immediately find itself on everyone's short list of "show your friends how amazing blu-ray is" titles.

Sadly for Firefly/Serenity fans I think there is a better chance of FOX releasing Buffy the Vampire Slayer series on blu. To me its a smarter move and it has current big name stars.

I'll take all three though.

You've gotta be fscking shittin' us, Duddite.

Why the hell would we waste any money--let alone $180+--on a format that is so dead even the worms that were feasting on its rotting corpse are moving on? No thanks, there's more than enough good movies on Blu. I can wait until Para***** and Universal come to their senses.

Yeah, I agree that Shepard Book was probably a Gov't agent in some previous life.

Glad to hear that Serenity was a good transfer. That means that there's a fair chance the the BD version will be up to snuff. :-)

That's the best news I've read all week! Do you have a link with more info?

Edit: This is the most recent news I could find posted by Joss regarding Serenity 2:

But, in Hollywood, rumors are simply not true...until they are, so there's always hope...

To each his own, for me 180$ is a small price to pay to enjoy the movies now rather than waiting an indefinite time period, especially with the freebies and worst case scenario of a decent upconverter.

I figure-enjoy the movies now, use the box as an upconverter once hddvds are no longer being released, and eventually rip them and use them in an mce setup. Win win win, as far as I'm concerned.

My objection to the "I don't want to wait, so why not have both?" strategy is the same as many others' and has often been discussed. It's a short-term tactic which fails to comprehend the fundamental fact that it contributes (in a small way, multiplied by the number of practitioners) to the prolongation of two, competing formats. Multiple formats confuse potential purchasers, delaying more widespread adoption of Hi Def discs and, ultimately, the publication of many, many more titles. If one truly wants to maximize the number of available titles in the long term, one format must disappear in order to best facilitate widespread adoption.

Folks who lack the circumspection to understand or appreciate this logic are, well, not using their noodles. Those who understand, but lack the patience to wait, are behaving like children. Either way, they're only hurting what ought to be their own long-term goals.

I was just watching Firefly again recently. So awesome~
It would be really excellent for them to release it on Blu since niche releases show that studios actually care about the customers, not just the profits guaranteed from hugely known/popular releases.

If the format war truly is nearing and end, and hd is in its deaththrows, then I'm not seeing where the concern lies with picking up some cheap movies that won't be released for a potentially long long time. Of course, perhaps I'm not using my noodle properly. Regardless, this has moved way off topic.
