There is a link at DVD beaver.com to amazon.com's posting of MPI's release for the Blu Ray of Becket... it is listed at 1.33:1 and I'm sure this is just an error on the amazon.com listing. But thought some classic film fans would be interested.

Definitely first day buy for me. With this and the Adventures of Robin Hood being released, we're finally getting some classics. I'm hoping you'll start seeing more, I'm sure I could make a list of 50 movies I'd love which would include many of O'Toole's movies as well as the Alfred Hitchcock films. I don't even believe Becket was released on DVD until 2005 or so. |

Most of Peter O'Toole's movies should be on blu-ray. It is great that more classics (especially period pieces) are coming to blu-ray. I had not expected to be able to have a well-rounded collection in blu.

Anyone find this title at any brick and morter stores?
In the twin cities area it doesn't appear to be stocked at any Best Buy / Borders or Barnes and Noble. Even a local Suncoast store won't stock it. I found it odd that Borders and Barnes doesn't stock it since it is usually the type of classic film they stock. I would guess those who do the sales etc thru the distributers choose poorly. I will probably order from amazon.com |

why would they bother wasting valueable shelf space on titles like Beckett when noted luminaries like Alvin &The Chipmunks and Meet Dave are up for the taking ? Bruce, DVD beaver has screencaps of Beckett on BD. |

There is a review of Becket here at Blu-ray.com:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...19&show=review It is reviewed quite well. I have yet to order it. But, I saw in the theater when it was released and it was an outstanding film and performance. I expect that I will purchase it for my collection shortly. Rich |

I have been putting off buying Becket for some time now, seeming to only want it when the price was up and then procrastinating when the price dropped into the $15.00 range.
Amazon, as of today, only has it available through a third party seller. Has anyone heard anything regarding the status of this release? A quick check of DVD Planet showed it in stock, and I'm sure it is still available at the other e-tailers. MPI's site does not list it as OOP, however they do have the following quote: “Fuse a new beat into your workout with the Kukuwa Dance Workout....” - O, The Oprah Magazine http://www.mpihomevideo.com/Store/De...p?ProdID=10179 Maybe they're adding a dance track? So, Arkadin it is worth picking up. Apparently there is also a German BD release of this film, maybe a side-by-side comparison of the two? Calling DVDBeaver...
I've recently gone region free and the German version looks to have a English track, so this might be a possibility. Last edited by dumb_dutchman; 07-06-2011 at 01:40 AM. |

Was actually quite excited there for a moment. For some reason which utterly escapes me I saw Becket but immediately thought of the Paul Scofield A Man For All Seasons which came out about the same time, a film I would love to see come out in blu-ray. |

Yeah, you can find this movie in the $7.88 bin at Walmart now. I too find the movie and acting very tiresome and tedious. And Thomas Beckett and his murder at Canterbury Cathedral is one of my most favorite topics.
If there is any classic movie in the top 100 that need's a modern remake-this is in the top 5. ![]() Also, as in terms of PQ, Beckett is marginally better than the dvd. |

I'd never seen the movie years ago, and never realized what a dead-on parody SCTV did of it one time: (And throwing Cromwell and The Lion in Winter into the mix, since, let's face it, they all start to blur after a while anyway.) ![]() |

I have seen this sort of comment so many times, and it is so stupid that I finally must comment on it:
"PQ is great, just great, for a 1964 source material." For "a 1964 source material"? Do those who post such comments ever THINK before posting such nonsense? How many films from 20 and more years earlier are PRISTINE, despite such "ancient" source material? Have such people not seen such as the Blu-ray "Casablanca"? "The Adventures of Robin Hood" from the 1938? 1940s-1950s Hitchcock? "The Bridge on the River Kwai" from the 1950s? How does such a pseudo-sophisticated bit of nonsense become a mindlessly repeated cliché? |

Resurrecting an old thread. It looks like Becket was released in France last June, with a restoration by Scorsese's Film Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Has anyone here seen this edition and do they have any comments on comparisons between the VCI transfer and the newer one?
