![]() ![]() Laurence Olivier's Hamlet has received a preliminary release date: October 12. Courtesy of ITV Granada. Oh, God, I'm so excited! Both this and Henry V! The Criterion release for Hamlet was rather skimpy (although better than Carlton's Australian release, that's for sure) but now the films have been restored (if memory serves)... wow. I can't contain my excitement!
![]() Now, we just need Richard III... EDIT: Kinda peeved at the lack of extras...I don't think any release of Hamlet has ever had extras, which is just mindboggling. Also, winner of 2 Oscars? More like winner of 4 Oscars. Sheesh. Last edited by 4dot; 08-26-2009 at 12:31 PM. |

In the spirit of the bump received by The 39 Steps, I'm bumping this thread in the hope of getting someone to review this title (PQ/SQ/Region-freeness) when it's released next week (or before, if someone is able to snatch a copy before then).

Confirmation:
This is a Region-B "locked" disc, so unless you have a native Region-B or Region-Free player, you won't be able to access its content. Please note that there is PAL content preceding its main menu. I won't have a review for Henry V with the other two releases. Once again, plenty of small scratches, debris and specks. Notably better detail, but there is some mild to strong contrast boosting, which occasionally evolves into strong edge-enhancement. Pro-B |

Hello, I was reading this thread and since I have both Hamlet (UK BD) and Henry V (UK BD) in my collection I thought to give some info that might be useful.
Hamlet is Region B-locked as is Henry V. Hamlet has LPCM 1.0 audio and English SDH subs. PQ is really nice, has grain preserved and some light damage (scratches). AQ is fine, didn't detect any noticable hissing etc. Henry V has Dolby Digital 2.0 and Enlish SDH Subs. PQ is nice, had grain preserved and some light damage, beginning of the movie seemed less organic to me (maybe some DNR???), could be wrong. Audio is fine, didn't detect any noticable hissing etc. Both movies are very watchable and filmlike to me. I don't have any DVDs to compare to though. Hope this might have helped. Koroshiya Ichi |
