COD4 multiplayer won't start

I need help!!!!! When I click on multiplayer in the COD4 menu my screen goes black and locks up my PS3. Anyone know what i can do to fix this? I thought if I deleted my game data that would help but It didn't. It's not my connection because I am still able to play my other games online.

leave it for a while, in single player mode, and wait. then head over to multiplayer. is this the first time your playing it? it does 'lock up' or stay on 'updating game settings' if you jump in too quickly.

Try port forwarding ports 3478 - 3658 UDP, when starting up COD4, it does a search to see if any new updates are available. If those ports are not open, it tends to crash, instead of going to the main menu of the game.

I really don't see what good deleting your game data would accomplish, other than starting over from scratch.

Pure speculation on my part here, but were you using the hex edit to get a colored name? If you were, be warned, IW is putting a stop to that exploit and if you don't do it right, it will screw up you game save data.

hahaha, i'm feeling a little stupid right now. turn out the disk just needed to be cleaned.
