I imagine KL picks studio catalog 4K releases by just spinning a huge wheel like Price is Right and just stopping randomly

My guess is that some studios force them to buy a package of titles so they can get their hands on the ones they really want.

Kino's getting odd. Their encoding went to shit yet I try to pick up catalog UHDs and sadly they get them out the door before their competition, so I can't wait if I want to have a slipcover included. Then they pick the most questionable titles for UHD. I think they are #1 of the boutiques for picking lesser known or less desirable titles. They'll probably give us UHDs of Kung Pow, Catwoman, and Norbit.

This was probably cheaper to license and it was a box office success in its day. It's clear Kino is all aboard the 4K train and something like this, with recognizable stars, will tempt some curious film fans. I think it'll do well enough for them.

And the choices are certainly more random than the other boutiques but KL has always been random with their offerings. They release plenty of great titles that no one else seems to be bothered to put out. If The General's Daughter gets us an In & Out I don't mind it.

Correct.

The deals are done as a bundle, not picked off individually.

There’s a lot of Paramount titles that have 4K masters ready to go, but not a HDR/Dolby Vision grade to accompany it. Curious if this is one Paramount provided or Kino Lorber did themselves (I assume the former).

It's really the only way to explain the release of Suspect Zero

I've never seen this but remembered Stephen King saying it was the last movie he saw before he was hit by a van.

This is a solid flick. Watched it again a few years ago and enjoyed - breath of fresh air even, considering this type of film is largely extinct.

Kino's lineup lately has made me think of the "Popcorn Classics" segment on On Cinema at the Cinema.

All I remember about this film is the posters hanging on every VHS rental store in the 90's and I wanted to rent it since I like Travolta but didn't get a chance. I don't think I'll blind buy it though.

I’d give The General’s Daughter (116 mins) 5 bags of popcorn and 3 of those miniature American flags for a general’s desk.
