Looks like Ys VIII is getting a native PS5 version because…reasons?

I own it on the Switch but have been tempted to grab the PS4 version for a while because of the 60FPS.

It’s a fantastic action RPG for anyone who has not played it.

I played and completed Y's the Vanished Omens on the SMS as a kid and really enjoyed that game. I've tried some of the newer ones and they're not too bad.

Loved the SMS, but Y's was a challenge. A friend had a TurboGrafx back in the day and it was a lot more fun.

I might pick it up just to have it physically since they are notorious for their games going out of print.

Would have been nice to have a true upgrade for PS5 with improved models and textures though. As is it seems like a pointless ‘upgrade’.

Do you have to play any of the previous games or can you just jump right in to one of the Ys games such as this one and be fine? Might give this a try at some point, but obviously I've never played any of the series before.

Ys 8 was my first one and I had no problems. They reference prior adventures a little but nothing that will stop you from understanding this game, its pretty self contained as far as the main story.

Looks like I'll be giving it a shot then. I have plenty of other games to play for the rest of the year, and this will likely come out right in the middle of a big release period (Forspoken, God of War Ragnarok, Gotham Knights, etc.), so waiting to see if the PS5 version is worth it or going with the PS4 version will be no problem.

On another JRPG note, did you ever try Tales of Arise? I haven't seen you on playing anything except for Horizon Forbidden West, and that was a while ago.

Yeah, it definitely is. This will get put on the list for 2023 like some games did for this year that I bought last year (Deathloop, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima again, etc.) I'll be shocked if Starfield makes it out on time, so that'll be one less in a crowded latter part of the year.

Somebody's slacking on games then. Real life isn't that important...

Deluxe edition is up on Amazon, it's $40 and includes the game, CD soundtrack, and an art book

Guessing the listing was pulled, not seeing anything when I search. But for $40 I’ll definitely grab this to have it physically.

For anyone looking to grab it physically just remember that these games are notorious for having short print runs and often waiting for a sale means not getting it at all.

I locked in a pre-order just in case the price is wrong until I can get an order in to use my Gamestop trade credit. Its $60 less than the limited edition up on their website.

I wonder why they didn't take this opportunity while re-releasing the game for next gen via Deluxe Edition to release it on Xbox Series X. Ys Origin did well there, I think.

Ended up ordering this from Target recently with $10 off $50 order and a $15 credit I had. Ready to revisit it in early 2023 when I will have time to play it.
