Default Someone Broke Into My Car

i'm sitting here on my couch pissed off right now. last night someone broke into my car. at the same time its odd because they took my gen 5 ipod, the car charger/fm transmitter for it, and the charger for my gps. but they left the gps stuck to the window. i don't get it. i think i know who it is to. this little f***head who like to think he's a bad*** but he's just a f***ing some loser a** kid who works at the autozone by my house. he saw my come home yesterday from walking with my daughter. i went into the car for something then went inside. i locked the door, but didn't set the alarm. so now i'm pissed because A: he stole from me, nothing is lower on the food chain than someone who will steal from your neighbor. i believe chris rock had some comments on that. B: i had to call the police upon my wife's insistance. i do not like police. no offense to any here just bad personal experiences. but i am soooooooooo pissed. to much crazy s*** lately

add/edit
i forgot to say that the person i suspect was lighting up a cig in the narrow walkway i was walking down and i asked him to wait until we got by. he did but was mumbling under his breath all pissed off when i walked past. then he kept watching me.

That's rough, bro - handle your business though, little rapscallions like that deserve a thorough beating.

Good luck with the insurance.
My Explorer was broken into over the holidays.
My GPS and 5th Gen iPod were stolen.
Read your insurance policy. Most wont cover these items unless they are bolted to the car. My GPS was covered, but not my iPod. I had mounting holes from my GPS.

Sorry to hear about this. It really sucks.

My wife's carwas broken into about a year and a half ago. It was really annoying. The crazy thing is that all they tried to steal were some CDs (and ironically, all they actually got were empty cases). We had to pay to fix the window. Luckily, it was just the very small window towards the back of the driver's side of the car.

We didn't bother turning it into the insurance company since it would have been under our deductible anyway.

Items like the ipod, other personal items, etc, being stolen from your car would actually likely be covered under home owners/renters insurance, if you have any, and if the total value of what was stolen is more than whatever your deductible is.

A word of advice though, in the future, don't leave these kinds of items sitting out in your car where people can see them. Either take them out of the car, or at least stick them in the glove compartment or something so people can't see what is in there.

I actually work for an insurance company. I'm not in a really high position or anything, but for a few months I was doing some overtime helping out the homeowners insurance department when they were short handed with looking up the value of items that people lost do to either theft or fire. You wouldn't believe how many claims were from car break ins. It was insane. So, my advice is to keep the items well hidden in your car if you plan to leave them in there.

Man, that sucks.

Here's a little "consolation" FWIW:

Last Friday I almost slipped on some ice while I was transporting a computer out of the backseat of my car. The only way to save myself was to lean forward for a moment against the car with the computer. Even though no sharp corners even touched the car, I've got myself some pretty bad scratches and several hundred bucks' worth of bodywork as a result.

So I feel for ya.

Hell of a decision - I think I might've tried to throw the computer back in the car and fall on my rear on the ice, if that was possible...

I'm sorry for you Buck When you catch the punk who did it, drag his ass into the middle of the street and beat him with a rubber hose!!!!

Now you can claim your Ipod on your renters or homeowners insurance.(Odd I know but even though it wasn't in the house you can still claim it.)

I feel your pain. a few years back I had left my brand new discman (before ipods were popular) in my friends LOCKED car, and went into the house for a couple minutes. When we came back out the window was smashed and my discman was gone. We all knew who did it because a house in the neighbourhood had the reputation. The problem was that the cops had been to the house several times and found nothing... probably pawned the stuff right away.

I've been through that before. A few years ago, I was going to stay over at my cousin's house and we left the car so we could rent a game for the night and when we got back, everything I brought with me was robbed in the same way The Hamburgerler would steal the burgers.

I have an IPOD, Sirius Stilleto, and in-dash DVD player in my jeep (with a soft-top) Rather than let someone cut my top, and have to pay $1000-$1500 for a new one, plus replace whatever was taken, I just never leave anything in my jeep, and lock up the face-plate for the dvd player in the the security/center counsel..... I have never locked my doors, I just don't leave anything of value in my jeep. Sucks to lose convenience, but as Randal would say "bunch of savages in this world"

My car was broken into back when I was still living in NJ while i was at work in a mall. The only thing taken was my 80gb video ipod. Luckily ( or unluckily) I received a free 30gb zune like 2 weeks later from work. Still, it sucks to have someone go into your private car and take your stuff.

That sucks, dude. At least it was only an iPod and stuff, and you weren't carjacked or something with your kid in the car. It can always be worse, if that's any consolation.

Had my car broken into about 8 years ago. Stupid kid (son of a neighbor in my apt complex--I am certain of it) ripped off the faceplate to my radio, but left the friggin radio. My insurance company deemed it "vandalism" instead of theft, but covered everything 100%, even a rental and replacing / re-tinting ALL of my windows to match the new one (at my insistence). Got a phat new head unit, too, because they gave me 100% replacement cost and I had bought my original Alpine with a huge discount.

What sucks is that Orlando PD dusted my car for prints and even matched them, but said it wasn't enough evidence to arrest him--even tho his prints were INSIDE my car--because they belonged to someone in my neighborhood and therefore were deemed "incidental" instead of "evidence". So I feel ya about not really liking cops. I've met maybe 2 decent cops ever... all the others I've ever met were douche nozzles (they don't even get the dignity of being the "bag").

ya its been a run of bad circumstances the last few months. but it will turn around. i suppose once i burn through all the bad karma i accumulated somewhere it will get better. also, i'd be affraid for anyone who tried to f with me while i'm in my car. i get a little road ragey as it is. i can be very when the circumstances allow me to be as such. i'm looking at ordering a new ipod now. but don't want to spend the $300 to replace everything. buckshot angry . i wish there was some kind of HULK smilie. i'd use that here right now.
