Default This doesnt make sense(dell blu-ray misshap)

Hey guys.

I recently bought an XPS 420 from dell, complete with internal blu-ray player and a nice sparkling 2407wfp-hc. Now according to everything i know, this should be sufficient enough to play blu-ray films. However, when loading a blu-ray film all i get is a black screen from various versions of powerDVD(both ultra and 7DX). Updated each one with current patches just to see if thats the issue, no luck.
I call them only for them to inform me that my monitor cannot playback blu-ray and that the only way to get blu-ray is to use a HDMI cable. I thought all that was necessary to play blu-ray would be a HDCP compliant monitor, which mine is. Now what the hell could it be? Are they right? I'm trying to negotiate a new monitor, but frankly i'd rather just keep mine, i've grown rather attached to it.

Here are my specs if anyone needs them:
Geforce 8800GTS 768
intel quad q6600 2.40
4gb memory (800mhz)
PLDS BD RE-4B1S

PC is hooked up via DVI. Anything that could clear this up would be excellent.

Thanks in Advance

niami
