Default When does downloading a game make sense to you?

I want to play Siren so badly, I really do. But for some reason I just haven't been able to bring myself to buy the download - I've discovered I have this strange need to own the hard copy so I can display it proudly on my shelf, but I don't seem to have that same problem with other games.

In fact, I would prefer some other games to be available as downloads - such as Everybody's/Hot Shots Golf. I would indeed like to have that game on my hard drive so I could pull it up between tense gaming sessions of other titles such as Condemned or Ninja Gaiden.

I guess ultimately though, what I'm asking is when would you buy a hard copy of a game and when would you buy a digital copy?

I'll always prefer physical copies over digital. It's the collector me, it's also the person who likes to loan things out. However, it seems like WipEout HD is only going to be a download so I will have no choice but to download that when it comes out.

You can buy Siren BD from Asia for US$54.

A game download makes sense if it's less than 500MB. No point in wasting a BD disc.

Wtih Sony & the PS3, I dont mind. Everything I've downloaded so far has been marked in my accoutn for re-download in case anything happens to it.

So I dont mind having a digital copy of a game. The next part of the decision comes with space left on my hard drive and if I can fit it.

When it comes to games, I don't mind a download. On the other hand, when it comes to movies, I would rather have the hard copy.

Hard copy ftw. I want to avoid re-downloading+re-installing as much as possible. Exchanging harddrives is out of the question due to mucked up job with stripped screws & pliers didn't work for me. You can call me "Greasy fingers 3HD."

Storage is the next goldmine for me.

If you bought either a HK/TW/SG version, the manual will be both in English and Chinese.

I'll always get the BD copy given the choice. I may pick up Blood Curse and Quest for Booty again when they're released on Blu-ray.

it just depends on the game, like warhawk i like having that on my HDD so its just there ready to play at any time with out having to put it in. Burnout is the same way i wish it came out with the digital copy because i know i wold play it more if it was on my HDD. Now GT4p I wish i got the disk for that game.

Well, I intend to buy SOCOM: Confrontation off of the PSN on the 14th as soon as it is released to the store, then a few days later I will purchase the Bluetooth/Blu-ray bundle. The reasoning? SOCOM is my most anticipated title, and many people in my clan have confirmed taking the release day (in some cases 2-3 days) off of work to get our SOCOM fix. I just know that since I booked the 14th off work, the BD/BT bundle won't actually arrive in stores until the 15th or 16th. I'd rather spend $100 on a soft and hard copy of the game and bask in SOCOM glory on a hard date, then $60 on just the hard copy and hoping that it will arrive in stores on the day I booked off. At least this way I won't feel as though a full day's worth of wages won't be sacrificed for nothing.

Really? That's good to know. I somehow got the idea that it was only in Japanese - thanks man, I appreciate the info.

Heh, your username is so very appropriate in regards to your post here

Edit: oh yes, and to get back on topic - PS1 games I would download with no hesitation (if only sony would release quality titles more often). Though PS2 titles I would still rather a hard copy.

For my PSP however I would much rather only have digital copies, which in my opinion is more convenient for such a device. Also, should your PSP ever be lost or stolen, it wouldn't be such a financial blow as the only thing you would have to replace is the PSP. If you had to re-purchase your PSP and all your UMD games then.... well.... forget about it.

PSN games are really the only ones i dont mind downloading. Movies are generally out of the question for DL. Ive rented a few from the PSN vid store but thats about it. I dont need to display my hard copy of a game -- i could really care less about that part -- but when im done with the game and wont play it again, i need to be able to sell it.

Hard copy for me all the way. I hate having stuff like that take HD space, and don't care to hassle of having to backup or download it again if I delete it and want to play the game later. There's also no way to trade or sell the game if you no longer want it.

Why not use a standard DVD disc?

Id have no problem downloading any game, as long as its linked to your name, and you are able to download it again. Im thinking more if you trade in your console, or it breaks for whatever reason.

I'm perfectly willing to put up with Downloads of any type as long as it does not sacrifice quality.

This is why I abhor movie downloads. No company is willing to give me a 20+ gig download, so I won't buy it.

However I was near first in line to download Siren.

500MB can be contained on a CD. But a PS3 game on a CD/DVD? There is a reason why they don't roll like that.
