Really? Pidgeon is really great in this. Her delivery with the line about the Electoral College is fantastic Amazing how Mamet could make a feel-good comedy that deals heavily with statutory rape. I hope we get a new film from him soon, but my god have his recent plays been excruciatingly awful |

I had no idea this was coming to Blu. I long gave up on this ever making it. I love this movie. One of my favorite Mamet films. Sad about the reviews of the video not being great, but I doubt we'll ever see an upgrade on this one. Going to have to take the plunge if anything just to get rid of my old DVD.

I mean, that was 100% expected. A new scan would've been advertised, so it's baffling why anyone would've thought it might be. It's also not a big enough title to warrant a full-on remaster.

It would have been a welcome surprise to get a remaster but highly unlikely.
Some DVD masters don't look too bad. Based on those screenshots though, this isn't one of them. Legend of Bagger Vance wasn't great but it was acceptable. That's a £20+ import to UK - not sure it's worth it for the quality offered. |

I was simply confirming it was the old scan and said I was hoping it'd be a bigger upgrade over the current DVD, not that I was expecting a new scan. I recently watched Kino's Lost Highway blu-ray and while that too was the old scan, it looked much better than the DVD. Happy this got a blu-ray release either way, and given the names involved, I'm shocked this didn't do better in theaters or on home video.

I wasn't going to get this.
Then the voice inside head my head had a word. So just watched this tonight. Definitely better in motion than the screenshots would have you believe and definitely better than the DVD. I'm not saying it's good - especially after mostly watching 4k discs lately. It's watchable - some parts even look very watchable. Wide shots come off the worse. It reminds me of those older universal catalog releases - but without the excessive DNR. I'm watching on a 65inch OLED - so smaller screens will be kinder. If only there was a 4k disc release of this - i'll have to file this dream under "fat chance". |

Never saw this before but i've been on a Mamet kick lately so couldn't resist picking it up.
Loved it - very, very funny and I knew it would be on my wavelength from the moment Bill Macy offers the mayor a cuban cigar, only to be earnestly told about the trade embargo with Cuba and that the cigars are illegal. Bill takes that fantastic beat and then says "Nobody tells me anything" ![]() |
