Every time the new "Spider-Man" trailer plays, I hear someone in the audience going, "Again?".
The first movie was not a big hit (it is the lowest grossing "Spider-Man" movie by a lot, and is also way below many big budget animated movies), and I don't know many who liked it. Also, if you wanna see "Spider-Man" in animation form, you could just watch the TV show.
So my guess is this second movie is gonna bomb. Specially if it keeps those wonky visuals that gave me a headache in the first movie.

Spider-Verse was widely beloved (A+ cinemascore, best reviewed Spider-Man film, animated feature Oscar etc), so that’s probably just the people you spoke too. It didn’t set the box office on fire, but I think the hope is the sequel will do better given all the residual love for the first.

120 million for Spider-Verse domestically. This thing is gonna out gross the original’s worldwide total in 7-10 days probably

Also these animated Spider-man movies have had budgets right around $100m, which while not cheap, is still only half of what most big franchise films or Disney's animated films are costing these days. It probably only needs to make around $300m worldwide to break even, while most the big movies now are needing to pull in $600m-$700m.

The big summer films that I could find a budget on:

Transformers $200m
Elemental $200m
The Flash $220m
Indiana Jones $300m
Mission Impossible $290m
Barbie $100m
Oppenheimer $100m
Haunted Mansion $160m

By current studio standards, I think we are at the point now where a $100 million production is pretty much a mid-budget film. The new Spidey may not end up the biggest film of the summer, but it certainly has the easiest path the being profitable. No chance it flops.

^ This. This will have the same sequel jump as the second Austin Powers movie, because the first was acclaimed as arguably the best Spider-Man movie of them all, and it's had five years to grow more admirers.

I think I've heard much higher estimates for Flash, mostly on account of all the reshoots....

Illumination has never spent more than $100 million on one of their Despicable Me/Minion movies, and Super Mario cost $100 mil. Most of these have topped out around a billion or more.

This is dependent on the reviews. Assuming the RT is 85%+ than I agree. Otherwise I'd be a little concerned by the trailers that are vague and weird and having Antman 3 vibes

I am a huge Spider-Man fan, but I don't even think I'll see this in theaters. The first one, while decent, wasn't anything game changing. The animation is something that was a bit off putting to many people who saw it - I personally started to get used to it after awhile, but I just am not overly anxious to see it ASAP. I will surely stream and/or purchase it later this summer once available.

I'll probably wait to stream this. I liked Miles Morales a lot in the Ultimate comics, but what I like about Spider-Man is how grounded his story is. A multiverse with countless other characters is just too much. I'd rather a story more focused on Miles and his family/friends, maybe have him interact with another New York hero.

I do hope it does well though since he's a fun superhero.

How high can “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” climb?

The sequel to 2018’s Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is getting a lift from good buzz and residual fondness for its predecessor, one of the inaugural cinematic forays into all things multiverse. And while reviews are still embargoed, critics flipped for the first one, so assuming the follow-up sticks the landing, the notices could propel “Across the Spider-Verse” ever higher. But it’s a crowded marketplace and five years has passed since audiences were first introduced to Miles Morales and a wide web of Spider-People. Plus, there’s been an ever expanding array of superhero films and streaming shows to turn to, increasing the competition for moviegoers who like their heroes costumed and masked.

That said, tracking suggests that “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” should have no trouble swinging to the top of box office charts when it opens in wide release on June 2. Initial projections have “Across the Spider-Verse” bowing to $80 million. That’s a big leap forward from the $35.4 million that “Into the Spider-Verse’ debuted with when it launching in theaters. But rival studios and exhibitors believe the sequel has a chance of opening to $90 million or even higher. To hit or eclipse that mark, “Across the Spider-Verse” will need to broaden its appeal, not only attracting teenagers and adults under the age of 40, but also bringing in families.

It also may depend on how well “The Little Mermaid,” which topped the Memorial Day box office with $117.5 million over the four-day holiday and $95.4 million for the weekend, holds. The Disney remake of the animated classic is looking for a sophomore weekend of roughly $40 million, which would represent a drop of just under 60%. If it over-performs that could make it harder for the Spidey sequel to draw younger crowds.

Sony Pictures produced “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” for $100 million, which is relatively economical considering that many major studio animated movies cost double that figure. The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson and follows Miles as he teams up with his lady love Gwen Stacy try to save his Spider brethren from a super-villain called the Spot. Shameik Moore returns to voice Miles along with Hailee Steinfeld once again portraying Gwen. The cast also includes Brian Tyree Henry, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya and Oscar Isaac.

“Across the Spider-Verse” isn’t the only new major studio release. Disney’s 20th Century Studios will look to frighten horror fans with “The Boogeyman,” an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story of the same name. The movie was originally slated to debut on Hulu, but the studio was impressed enough by the footage to change things up and re-conceive “The Boogeyman” as a theatrical proposition — hey, it worked for “Smile!” The film centers on a father who works as a therapist but finds himself unable to help his daughters deal with the recent death of their mother. But things get dicier when a desperate patient shows up unexpectedly at the family’s house asking for help, bringing with him a terrifying and sinister force. Rob Savage (“Host”) directs the $35 million production with a cast that includes “Yellowjackets” star Sophie Thatcher and Chris Messina. “The Boogeyman” is on track to open to $15 million, a respectable result for the modestly budgeted movie.

It's boys week this week, take you boys to see Spidey...the girls got to watch TLM last weekend. Treat all kids fairly.

Utterly bizarre take to think most people disliked Into the Spider-verse. I swear, some of you live inside your own bubbles way too much. Just take a look at online user ratings (RT, Letterboxd, IMDb) for the movie to see how well-liked it is.

Thinking that girls couldn't be interested in Spider-Verse is another utterly bizarre take... Gwen Stacy is a pretty good role model for them, as far as comic-book characters go.

Never said they couldn't be interested in it. I'm just stating Spidey is more for boys and TLM is more for girls. Obviously there's crossover appeal.
