Quote:
Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway in her parent’s home upstate. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

So you create a thread but doubt the film's potential. Nice.

I expect a huge "100% on RT" plastered on the cover.

This will be a day one purchase for me.

I just saw it at the theater, and here is my review from the Movies forum...

Chris, a black photographer played by Daniel Kaluuya, travels with his white girlfriend to meet her parents, who live in a luxurious country home in upstate New York. Get Out, the directorial debut from Jordan Peele, who achieved fame with his sketches on Comedy Central, initially unfolds like a present-day update of the 1967 film, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, where Chris's awkward interactions with the parents and the other white people in the community, all of whom are revealing underlying prejudices by trying too hard to be hip and open-minded while they are around him, are played for laughs. These amusing moments of forced discomfort are laced with an unsettling edge, though, and, after a methodically-paced first hour, where Chris senses that these idyllic country suburbs hide a sinister secret, this movie goes in for the kill with an intense and genuinely terrifying buildup that leads to a violent finale. The end result is my favorite movie of 2017 so far and one of my favorite horror films in recent memory.

Get Out achieves greatness as a horror movie by feeding on contemporary race tensions, on stereotypes, and on the odd phenomenon of white people who wish to be as cool as blacks without having to experience any of the bigotry or "polite racism." I was reminded several times of the brilliant 1975 film, The Stepford Wives, which drew its scares from social criticisms of the sexism of its respective era. In a general sense, however, Get Out works well for anyone who has ever felt out of place in any given social situation. This film has my highest recommendation.

Friendly tip:

Get Out probably has the honor of being one of those movies with a title that makes it impossible to find with this site's search function.

If you want to find this thread in the future, then search for "Kaluuya."

I liked it a lot. I don't think it has much rewatchability through, so I'll wait for a price drop.

The social politics element of the story makes it a cut above most horror films being made these days, but it's probably being overpraised. It's a really solid small-scale horror film done almost perfectly.

Still, I'll take a movie as good as this over most of the other horror Blumhouse produces, any day.

I'm really excited to see what Jordan Peele will make as his follow-up.

Him and Key were funny in "Keanu" and he also happens to be one hell of a director too.

Living in Philly I have a ton of Black friends and many they are HYPE about this movie. Maybe I'll blind-buy it.

I haven't left the theater that exhilarated in a LONG time! Great film and very timely. A well-deserved 100% Fresh score, and it's already made back 7.5x its filming budget. Pre-ordered.

The film now has it's first negative review! Guess who it's from? Yep... good old Armond White, everybody's favorite "contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian" movie reviewer. Here are some of the highlights of his "review." He shoehorns in "Obama" and "Trayvon Martin" every chance he gets for some odd reason. Guess because he's now writing for an ultra conservative magazine.

http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...t-whitey-movie

Quote:
The comedy side churns out trite “post-racial” ironies that have defined political humor for the past eight years (protecting and defending former president Obama) and that now threaten to continue in bizarre guises like this.
Quote:
Pushing buttons that alarm blacks yet charm white liberals, Peele manipulates the Trayvon Martin myth the same way Obama himself did when he pandered by saying, “Trayvon Martin could have been my son.”
And my favorite line. Yes, Armond White seriously called Norbit, the Klumps, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave "ingenious."

Quote:
Get Out does not rank with America’s notable race comedies — Brian De Palma’s Hi, Mom!, Ossie Davis’s Gone Are the Days! (Purlie Victorious), Robert Downey Sr.’s Putney Swope, Melvin Van Peebles’s Sweet Sweetback, Hal Ashby’s The Landlord, Rusty Cundieff’s Fear of a Black Hat, Skin Game or any of the genre spoofs by the Wayans family, particularly the ingenious Little Man, or the recent Eddie Murphy films (The Klumps, Norbit, Meet Dave, A Thousand Words) that are so personal and ingenious, they transcend racial categorization.
