Default mpeg4 conversion software

As the PS3 only plays video files in mpeg4, can anyone suggest a conversion application that will simply convert an AVI, wmv, etc, into mpeg4 - but keeping the same screen size?

I have PSP conversion software that will convert video into PSP friendly files, but in doing so it shrinks the size to fit the PSP screen.

Thanks!

If you're starting from a DVD, DVDFab is an excellent software utility.
Or Quicktime PRO...

Tell us what you want, what your source is and what you want to have.

DVD would be a VOB file. I think he is just looking to convert straight up AVI of WMV. But we do need more info.

I think right now is better to wait it out and see what more improvements come out of the next firmware. Conversion from a lossy format is not going to give you the quality you want - like converting MP3 to AAC.

What I want to do is transfer videos from tv recordings (from a PVR) to view back on my PS3.

So for instance, I have a 608 x 336 video file that I want to convert to a PS3 compatible file; mpeg4 and same resolution.

My plan is to create a series of videos stored on my PS3 (come March) and watch them direct from there, rather than have to create DVD's on my PC.

From my research, PVRs can record in MPEG-2 PS format, which is one of the formats natively supported by the PS3.

Only MPEG-2 TS has to be remuxed - as in seperate the video and the AC3 audio (if it's in 5.1) and the mux them together as MPEG-2 PS.
