Default Seating/lighting/room treatments

Please consolidate and share your Do-it-yourself or purchased screens/acoustical treatments/stands/lighting/seating information and resources here.

Please Post and I will update the first post until we get a solid list going....

Common DIY Projection Screen materials:

BOC (Black Out Cloth)

This is a commonly found material in fabric stores used to line the back of curtains. One side is White, the other is more "grey" People have found success using both sides, painted, and non-painted.

PAINT:

Whether it be for BOC or simply onto a wall, many people find certain shades of white/grey and the mixture (from simple to complex) of various types/shades of paint to produce the best image for Front Projectors. Store-Bought, pre-mixed shades such as "Behr Silverscreen" have been used with success by many.
Please share formulas, or vendors (with paint I.D. # ) for paints you have found success with.

LAMINATES:

Laminate desinged for use as countertops etc. has also been used by many with great success as a screen material, both painted, and unpainted. It is yet another low-cost, and EASY alternative.

One popular form of Laminate found commonly at Home-Depot is "Wilson Art Designer White" Which can be purchased at custom sizes, running $40-$50 for a size suitable for a 100" screen.

ACOUSTICALLY TRANSPARENT SCREENS:
Woven or perforated screens used to allow sound from the speakers to penetrate the screen, yet keep the speakers out of sight. Please post any Do-It-Yourself materials/solutions you may have for an Acoustically Transparent screen.

OTHER:

Here is a sight I found useful when building my screen. They have Black-Velvet border tape (GREAT, HIGHLY recommended) and "clips" that make attaching and adjusting the screen over time quite simple.

Here is another source for Theater seating, risers, carpets, accessories, etc.:

http://www.4seating.com/index_theater_decor.htm

They are manufacturers of their own seating and I expect that when it is time that I well purchase from them.

Beta Man,

I believe you should delete the room treatment part. We already have Acoustic Treatment Research Material with a sticky on it. It has many useful links and covers everything about room treatment, including DIY. Alternatively, you can just put a link there and direct people to that thread.

for a DIY Acoustically Transparent screen material i don't believe you'll beat SeymourAV 's centerstage XD material i could hear no difference with the material in front of the speaker versus without and it shows a perfect image with 1.2 gain the actual screen material was about $160 shipped for my 10ft wide 2.40:1 screen. and i also have to say i had a great buying experience with theaterseatstore.com as well for my Berkline Reno seats.

In my case, and what I would reconmend for seating is to go to your local discount funiture store and see what they have.....

I was able to get a steal of $100 per chair for my theatre....

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but Lowes now carries a 4 pack of the Cyron LED lights for $50.

I picked a set up today and they look great on my 52" Sony. Much brighter than I thought they would be. They are only 9" rods, but trust me when I say they do the trick.

They're a nice middle of the line/starter set for those like me that don't want to spend a whole lot.

I say, those Cyron lights might just be the lighting I need for my next project. The IKEA lights have nothing on these if their description is correct...

Yeah, Lowes description is accurate. I actually liked the looks of the Ikea ones. However, no stores in my state have them in stock, and you can't order online. Lowes is right up the road, so I got them. My Lowes just started carrying them this past Monday. I really like 'em!

The furniture store I work in part time recently picked up Row One home theater seating. They have a very reasonably priced import lines with power (3 year warranty on their motors) and their domestic line in produced in eastern Tennessee. Apparently it was started by some former Berkline folks who took some of the most popular frames and put them in production under this umbrella. We've carried Palliser home theater seats for a few years now.
