Center Stage (2000) (Choice Collection)

Sony is releasing Center stage onto blu-ray 1/20/09 with a MSRP of $28.95.

This is one that i will be looking forward to adding to my collection!

Addition: Apparently Sony has recently finished filming Center Stage 2 - which will also be released on the same day but with a retail of $39.95

I liked Center Stage for the simple fact that it had Peter Gallagher before he starred on "The O.C.". And the performances from Zoe Saldana and Susan May Pratt in the film were pretty satisfactory. I'll have to think about it for now.

Center Stage 2 has been removed from being released on blu-ray.
This direct to video sequel is currently only set to be released on dvd.

How is this movie on Blu-ray? Is it worth a pickup if I've never owned the film on any other format?

Better then no blu-ray at all but not at $25 . Sony mods ever go on sale ?

Eh, not for me. I'm not going to get a BD-R that may or may not work. MODs in general typically don't go on sale because they're made on demand and have a smaller amount made, BD-R is even smaller than pressed MOD, so they don't need to be discounted to move product.

Anyone by chance have the German BR and can confirm if its region free? I did a lot searching but can't find region info on this release anywhere.

I'm pretty surprised that there's such little incentive to put this on a proper blu ray and that it doesn't have more champions within the film community. There are much less artistically worthy movies out there that have gotten a Criterion release! Even though there are some who occasionally laugh this movie off as somewhat campy, it does have a lot of fans and it's pretty well respected within the dance/ballet community and for the most part is a pretty respectful look at the dance school process.

There is legit cinematic value here to warrant an HD release. It's shot in 2.35:1 and makes pretty effective used of the widescreen ratio to capture multiple bodies in motion and many of the dance scenes are well framed and composed.
