Well... not anymore. He was killed fighting an Egyptian mummy with JFK about twenty years ago.

Bullshit, in his prime he was the best. The best frontman in music history and the only one who became a "god" figure. |

Geez has society really lost touch this bad? To not be able to grasp that Elvis was one of THE most talented and charismatic music entertainers is to need to walk around with a paper bag over your head the rest of your life. You are beyond help son!

Well ,
I’ve been to Graceland. My Aunt couldn’t have been a bigger fan. She met him once and purchased some of the land at Graceland. ( the story st the time was by selling tiny portions no one would be able to purchase it outright… I don’t know if that was BS ) I, personally, no longer care about him but I guess others do and moreover it could be a good movie. I’m more into Pink Floyd, Queen, Beatles. He was before my time and I’m leaving him there. Last edited by bhampton; 06-03-2022 at 12:34 AM. |

Elvis in film is like Superman to me.
The 70's version was best (Kurt Russell/Reeves) with uneven results. They try like hell every since to get it right and it never quite gels. Both are too big to be explained. You either get it or you don't. It doesn't make either any less of global icons despite the attempts by so many to replace them (Batman/Beatles etc...). There can only be one pioneer and the rest just came after. |

He is that to you ?
And Beatles and Batman were riding his coat tails ? Ok. I can’t see your POV at all but I can respect it. And maybe feel a little bad for ya. I had no idea there was still a market for him. I may get this after Good Burger but I would certainly get a movie with actual Elvis first and that’s far from likely. I’m sorry I offended Elvis fans. I didn’t think anyone still worshiped him. What do you mean there is no market for Elvis? His singles still sold with even the latest remix single. It is like you just woke up from some deep hibernation. As for his movies, he actually did quite well. Never heard of King Creole, Wild in the Country (an excellent Good Will Hunting story), Jailhouse Rock...hell Viva Las Vegas. Dude could hold the screen while singing some great tunes. He was very successful and with good reason. There is always a market for greatness. Get out the paper bag son. |

Yes!
There's no one quite like him, and that's kind of my point. He really was the best at taking what others did and making it his own. It's not hard to find many different artists who Elvis co-opted, but I don't think it's fair to compare most of them to Elvis since they were genuine artists while Elvis was more of an entertainer who presented what they created to a completely out-of-touch mainstream audience. The stars really aligned for Elvis in that he was able to package this new product that was Rock n' Roll into something palatable for large audiences just as mass media was becoming a thing. The hysteria he created was as unique as it was disturbing and I'm glad we really don't see that kind of thing much anymore outside of things like adolescent girls' obsession with boy bands. Come to think of it, I think Elvis has a lot more in common with modern boy bands and the like than any actual musicians and artists who came afterwards. And that's okay! There's nothing wrong with being a great entertainer. I get that he means a lot to a certain generation. I know people who love Elvis like to say there will never be anyone else like him, and I actually agree. And I think that's a good thing. Anyway, this movie looks flashy, and it looks superficial, and it seems like it doesn't really have anything substantial to say about anything. Which I guess might make it the perfect movie about Elvis after all. |

Shakespeare was also a hack. Beowulf was written long before Willie wrote his first play so he was guilty of taking what came before him and making it his own. Hell, you could say the same about Beowulf because humans told stories by drawing on the wall of their caves long before it was written.
