Normally Universal names the BD-type. But not this time. It would also be the first BD-100 for Universal, btw.

Looks like the UHD version is for the theatrical only, but the Ultimate Edition will still be on the main Blu-ray. Personally, I can live with that since I normally watch the TE anyways (and the BD still impresses me).

Disc 1 being the UHD has both versions listed at 3 hr. 8 min. and 3 hrs. 20 min. Damn I just bought this in Feb. to replace my old bluray.

Not sure if I'm willing to upgrade again just yet. Something told me to wait and see if they would do a UHD version, but $13 at Walmart for the Ultimate Edition was too hard not to pass up.

People who bought a recent edition have nobody to blame but themselves.

The release pattern has basically been set for a while now. Certain studios are releasing 4k catalog titles around the time the sequels come out. Knowing that Skull Island is coming to 4k Blu Ray soon, one should have expected The 2005 Kong to also be released with it., or at least wait and see.

Good news. The improved H.265 encoding alone with make a notable improvement compared to the low bit VC-1.

This is enticing. The movie would look and sound incredible on UHD. At least I could convince my wife I only paid $8 for the blu ray so it won't be as big of a hit financially to upgrade LOL.

Definite buy. After seeing Skull Island I watched this again and warmed up to it a good bit. I hate some of the CG and it's not perfect, but it has real characters, heart and movie-making, which most blockbusters don't anymore.
