Arrow Amy Adams to play Janis Joplin

I thought this was an interesting read. Supposedly she beat out Zooey Deschanel for the role of Janis Joplin. I'll definitely see this one. I think Adams is a great actress and a pretty good singer. Zooey is good too though..I'm sure it was a tight race. How will they pull this one off? Joplin was quite the character.

Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams will play troubled singer Janis Joplin in the long delayed biopic of the singer. The film, titled Get It While You Can, will be directed by Fernando Meirelles, the man behind the award-winning City of God and The Constant Gardener, reports Total Film.

Adams is no stranger to either biopics or musical roles, having sung in Disney musical Enchanted and starred in biopic Julie And Julia, in which she played writer Julie Powell.

A biopic of Janis Joplin has been in the works for the last two decades, with two projects previously not making it to the screen.

Piece of My Heart, starring Renee Zellweger as Joplin was never made. And The Gospel According To Janis, which had singer Pink attached to play Joplin also fell through, despite The Squid And The Whale producer Peter Newman securing rights to Joplin’s most famous songs.

Janis Joplin looks like a man, baby! They'll have to do a lot of makeup work for her to do that role.

Plus she as a much better voice then Janis ever did...well I might watch it but I never really understand the appeal Janis had over people, she was a horrible singer.

lol I was thinking the same thing. Amy Adams is way to cute to be mistaken for Janis Joplin. If they can make Charlize Theron look that unattractive in Monster I'm sure they can make it work.

It was never about a pretty singing voice with Janis Joplin. It was about pouring every bit of her soul into the song. I love her voice.

Oh I am sure a lot of people loved her voice considering but I never understood it. All she does is screaming like a cat in heat for me I would never call that singing.

haha I was thinking the same thing. They made Charlize look hideous and she's a beautiful woman. As far as me being a fan of Joplin...not really haha. I never liked her performance on the Woodstock Blu-ray. I thought this one wasn't too bad on the Monterey Pop blu..

She was definitely a character and there will probably never be a singer quite like her again. Her sound was unique..that's for sure.

T.M.I.

I don't wanna picture Joplin like that.

Too bad, the mental image is already burned into your brain, permanently. Joplin actually looks a lot like Howard Stern to me.

Thumbs up

Right on. Hope Amy can at least be half as good as Janis was. I have the Woodstock and Monterey Pop Blu-Rays and I've never seen anyone come close to the passion and intensity that Janis had.

I doubt they will use Amy Adams' real singing voice for the film....practically impossible. Janis Joplin was a great singer.

Both are great Blu-ray's..I may not be a fan of her music, but I agree with you about her passion for performing.

I wonder if they will make a replica of her Porsche and have Amy drive around in it. It was definitely "far out" for its time.

Why no Zooey Deschanel?
She was the "better choice!"

I am a Zooey fan, so I obviously would have rather had her in it, but Amy Adams seems to be well liked here as well. Nothing against her. I've never seen anything with her in it, that's all.

My note for the musically inclined: Her voice has absolutely nothing to do with her legacy. She was known as the first 'rocker chick'.

I never understood this stuff. It helps if actors can actually act, but the #1 reason stars are hired is their sex appeal. So what do they do here? They hire a woman with whom every red-blooded heterosexual man would want to make babies only to turn her into a woman few men with functional eyesight would idealize sexually. I know a movie's bankability is all about its star power, but you can't tell me there isn't a very talented actress out there who more closely resembles Janis Joplin.

When you strip away the make-up and glamour woman wear, most women are pretty average, like Janis. Amy Adams is cute, but she is average looking. It took me most of the film to realize the mousey nun was Amy Adams in Doubt.

If Amy Adams is just average then give me average any day. I think she's gorgeous and a great actress. I think Zooey was also a great choice but i am happy for whatever movie Amy gets.
