Obiviously it is a Christian film, but, for those in the market for this type of content, it is amazing. Very well done. This is season 1 of (hopefully) 8.

On January 28th 2021 The Chosen Special Anniversary Edition season one was released on the Blu-ray format. This is a special edition 6 disc set. I have never seen this series before and I just became aware of its existence in the last week.

![]() The Chosen Special Anniversary Edition – season one Blu-ray (brief user review) I loved the scene in the TV series where the Rabbi named Yeshua (Jesus) meets with the suffering woman at Jacob’s Well and announces that he is the Messiah. This is an amazing TV series and I recommend it for all Christians and anyone else that is interested in learning about the life of Jesus Christ (however some of the bonus features on the 2 Blu-ray bonus discs deals with a lot of Christian topics that some people might not like). The Chosen season one Blu-ray boxset Disc 2: 17.1GB Disc 3 21.7GB Disc 4 20.5GB Disc 5 22.7GB Disc 6 21.2GB Video comments Audio comments Extra features According to the extra features there was some people worried that the TV series might be too evangelical based or too Catholic based, also some people were worried because Mormons were involved in the distribution. However, the Christian community came together and even though there are differences they all believe in the fundamentals of the faith like virgin birth, death and resurrection of Christ, etc. During the Biblical roundtable discuss and other bonus material an Evangelical, Catholic Priest, Rabbi, and a person from Theological school were the consultants, and they all got together to discuss the TV series and what they agree and disagree with. Some topics are regarding wine in the TV series, some topics are regarding demon possession in the TV series and in modern times. Some people mentioned that Evangelicals think that Catholic churches have too many idols with the beautiful statues and crosses of Jesus in the Catholic church, while other Evangelicals believe that Catholic churches and statues are not idols but beautiful works of art that strengths one’s faith. Also, rosary and praying to Mary is talked about. Evangelicals only pray to Jesus and are offended by people that pray to Mary and the Saints. Evangelicals believe Mary was a very holy person that committed very little sin in her life, while Catholics believe Mary was without sin and perfect just like Jesus. A massive number of topics are covered about the TV series and various doctrines related to and not related to the TV series are discussed. Regarding the content that I disagree with on the bonus discs (I am in the minority regarding this secular movie issue and some Conservative Christians would label me as a liberal for watching any type of secular movie). While growing up in the 20th Century I had both atheist friends, non-Christian friends, and some Christian friends. Some Christian people I knew, they had to get permission from their parents in order to watch a PG rated movie when they were around 16 years old, and they were never allowed to watch a PG-13 or R rated movie (Of course if it’s a faith based R rated movie like the Passion of the Christ most Christian parents will allow their child as young as 4 years old to see that R rated movie). However even though I was raised as a Catholic, I was allowed to watch any secular R rated movie regardless of my age (which is legal as long as one is with an adult guardian). I and many people I knew grew up watching PG-13 and R rated movies, and I and some others turned out perfectly normal since some people make decisions on what is good and what is bad in a movie, and in real life decide not to engage in bad activity by developing a moral code. For Christians that moral code is the 10 commandants and Bible. In the 20th Century before content filtering existed, Christians and other faith-based people would boycott all or certain PG-13 and R rated movies since they did not want their money going to the movie studios that produced those types of movies. In this Blu-ray TV series extra features there is testimonies from a couple of Christians that they do not watch PG-13 movies or they did not use to watch any PG-13 movies since their parents would not allow a PG-13 movie to be watched. When buying this Blu-ray series, I did not realize that VidAngel studios was the same VidAngel company that has developed filtering technology that allows people to filter out bad language, nudity, violence, and other material from a PG-13 or R rated movie. So, the Christian community has gone from boycotting movies to financially supporting those movies as long as they can filter out portions of the movie that contains certain content. There was one rated G movie in the late 20th Century that had a close up of a women breast feeding their baby with no shirt on, and the filtering software would most likely consider that nudity. Then when PG-13 movies first came out there was a scene where a woman fully naked for a few seconds runs across the room, which means that would most likely be filtered out with the software also. The Game of Thrones is mentioned in the bonus content and on the screen Lucasfilms is also mentioned. Therefore, someone can filter out the violence that is located in a PG-13 movies like some of the Star Wars movies. I have never worked for a Hollywood movie studio or Christian movie studio, and I have never worked for the government, however I strongly take the side of the Hollywood studios and I am against censorship of movies using filtering technology. I have always believed that a movie should be seen and watched the way the director wanted without it being filtered and edited for content. If one does not like the movies rating or content they should just not buy or rent the movie, there are plenty of other family movies to watch that are rated G or PG. While I am against lawsuits, I see that the Utah-based VidAngel has finally settled the $62 million dollar lawsuit between Lucasfilms, Disney, Warner Bros, and 20th Century Fox. In the studios favor VidAngel will never again be allowed to stream or play the studios movies unless it has permission first. Sometimes atheists and non-Christians complain about people watching Christian and faith-based movies. Then at the same time I have heard from Christians that secular PG-13 and R rated movies should never be watched. I am getting tired of people trying to control what a person wants to be able to watch. If one is an adult and the movie is legal to watch then people should stop trying to control what a person watches or does not watch. Parents should be able make the final decision on what their child should watch or not watch when it comes to PG-13 and R rated movies. Commercial movie theaters and retail stores under the law will allow young children to see and buy a PG-13 movie without their parents being with. However, when it comes to R rated movies under the law a parent needs to be with a child in order for anyone under 17 to see a R rated movie. Now when it comes to NC-17 movies (former called X rated) no one under 17 is allowed in the movie theater (and movie theaters that carry NC-17 movies will hire security to make sure only people with a valid ID with an age of 17 or more are allowed entrance). Many retail stores and commercial movie theaters decide not to carry NC-17 movies since those types of movies are normally in less demand and the risk reward ratio is bad in most cities. They are currently about a week away from completing production of season 2, and are already raising funds for season 3.
This is such an amazing show that presents the disciples as common, ordinary men with faults and weaknesses, just like us....but yet, Jesus chose them to do an amazing work. It's encouraging to us to know that Jesus doesn't always select the cream of the crop to do his bidding.....He can use common ordinary people too. |

Since the threads over on the TV forum didn't gain much traction, I figured I'd post this here, especially since the site now has this tagged as the official thread for the show when you search either of the Blu-ray releases; the trailer for season two has dropped, and it looks incredible:
I adored season one and felt even with it just starting to cover the beginnings of Jesus' ministry that it was the strongest depiction of the Gospel I've seen on film. My one quibble with it was that I felt the use of handheld cameras was a little distracting at times, though never nauseating like Paul Greengrass' films. It looks like with season two, they switched mostly to steadicam, and the result is gorgeously fluid. It also has more vibrant color timing than season one which is probably intentional to indicate that now Jesus is going public and bringing life to everything. I was an extra for the sermon on the mount scene, so I'm dying to see how that sequence looks in episode 8. Just from the one shot of it alone in the trailer (the triple-cut shot of a crowd walking towards the camera in the fog), I can see the color timing is going to make a huge difference on what was visually a very stark and drab day. |

All eight episodes of season two are now available for streaming via either The Chosen app or thechosen.tv website. The season finale launched tonight, and with it, a special Premiere Edition of season two that's available to pre-order for September:
https://thechosengifts.com/collectio...ition-disc-set The difference between the Premiere Edition and the general release version will be a devotional booklet that will be included inside. No word, yet, on whether this will have the round table discussions with the Catholic priest, evangelical pastor, and Messianic rabbi that season one had, though the discussions are confirmed to at least be coming to the app soon. And, of course, eventually there will be a Special Edition digipak with tons of content to match the one for season one, but that's probably not coming till either Easter of 2022 (to coincide with the one-year anniversary of season two's launch) or July (to coincide with the one-year anniversary of season two's completion). I loved this season even more than the first. The conflicts amongst the disciples are fascinating to watch, and the scope of this feels more grand than season one. You can see Dallas and his team really pushing themselves in terms of storytelling and directing as this season plays with editing more, and the cinematography is more fluid and symmetrical. My favorite episode was episode 4 ("The Perfect Opportunity") which deals with Simon Zealotes and his brother Jesse, the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda. The way so many different plot threads came to a head in that one was fantastic. I was able to find myself in the crowd in two shots from the finale even via streaming quality, so I look forward to when I can make myself out clearer on the Blu. They also interviewed me briefly the morning of the shoot (literally as I was boarding the bus to get to the location), so I may pop up in the documentary they've got planned for that. |

I'm waiting on my pre-order, too. I assumed the release date was the 7th because that was when the special "early release" version with the booklet was going to be replaced by the standard, but even the standard is showing as a pre-order, so I guess the 28th might be accurate.
Apparently they're going the route of the reissue of the standard Season One (the one this site reviewed) and making Season Two barebones in order to make the Special Edition more enticing. Someone asked Dallas about the Special Edition for season two, and he estimates it'll be ready in time for Easter. Just the day-by-day b-roll clips from their YouTube page make for a strong documentary if given a "Play All" function, not to mention the Sermon on the Mount doc that recently debuted. I'm also looking forward to the Biblical Roundtable discussions as this season had more controversial artistic license in it than season one did. |

I didn't watch season 2 yet. Somehow, I just kept missing it when it streamed. But I'm anxious to receive my pre-order. Now, I DID see the first half of ep.1, but it was confusing and very different. I chalked it up as my schedule that day was full and I was distracted. I will try again once it arrives.

https://www.christianbook.com/the-ch...-ray/pd/157273 Also the Blu-ray.com database does not even have a picture yet for the season 2 Blu-ray, plus Amazon does not even have a preo-order up for season two so maybe this season might not make it out on Blu-ray or if it does it could be a BD-R disc instead of a professional stamped disc. I am not sure what is causing the delay. I know that on the bonus discs for season 1 Special Anniversary Edition that was released back in November 25th of 2020 there is some bonus material that talked about some type of accounting issue they were having with the project for season one. But maybe its not a money issue or demand issue but other delays that are holding up the release of season two. But not being offered by Amazon as a pre-order might be signs that either Amazon decided not to carry season two or maybe season two might not become a reality on Blu-ray. Just weird that no pre-order offered on Amazon. You mentioned that Season two of the Chosen well one day most likely get a special anniversary edition (Special Edition) like season one did. But according to the Blu-ray.com database the Chosen season one Special Anniversary Edition 6 disc Blu-ray version was released on November 25th 2020, and the standard 2 disc Blu-ray version was released on Jan 28th 2021. Very odd to release the Ultimate 6 disc Blu-ray version a couple of months before releasing the 2 disc Blu-ray version. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-C...lu-ray/286319/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-C...271838/#Review Worse case scenario season 2 on Blu-ray could be canceled for lack of demand, but maybe it well come on October 20th or sometime this year or next year. But if there is going to be a special edition Easter edition coming on Blu-ray like you mentioned, then most people would just cancel their standard Chosen season one Blu-ray and wait for the special edition to be released. And here's where it gets weird in regards to the season one standard set. The Blu-ray set was actually released Thanksgiving of 2019 as a 3-disc set. That set had the 8 episodes spread across two discs, and disc three contained the pilot short film ("The Shepherd"), eight Biblical roundtable discussions with the religious consultants on the show, and a featurette about the miracle of the fish. After the Special Edition got released exactly a year later, the 3-disc standard set got replaced with a 2-disc set which moves "The Shepherd" to disc one, ditches the roundtable discussions and featurette, and has a few promos about the app and the show's integrity. That newer set is what's available now and what this site reviewed. So I guess they realized they needed to make the Special Edition more enticing to people, hence the barebones reissue. With season two, it doesn't seem like they made that mistake again. From what I can tell, the standard season two is also barebones. |

The Christian studio called VIDANGEL Productions is having issues getting both the Blu-ray version and the DVD version released on the market (For season two). The discs keep getting delayed. These discs are still not shipping, however maybe under ideal conditions they might meet the October 20th 2021 release date unless the release is delayed until November or December or possible early next year sometime (that is if its released at all).
According to the Christianbook website the Blu-ray well not be released until October 20th 2021. https://www.christianbook.com/the-ch...-ray/pd/157273 The main website used by VIDANGEL is still showing a pre-order condition for both the Blu-ray and DVD along with the website changing the release date from September to October. Therefore, my point is these discs are not shipping and no one owns a copy on Blu-ray and DVD yet since season two has not been released yet. https://thechosengifts.com/collectio...y-episodes-1-8 There is an estimated 2.2 billion Christians in the world. I was raised as a Christian growing up. I have been collecting Christian and faith-based movies for over 3 decades. I remember buying Jesus of Nazareth on BETAMAX videotape in the late 80’s or early 90’s since that title was never released on Laserdisc (but did see a DVD and Blu-ray release many years later). I also purchased many Christian and faith-based movies in the 90’s on the Laserdisc format which was the best quality format in existence at the time. Laserdisc existed between the years 1978 to 2000+. However, when the DVD format came out in 1997, the better quality DVD format became so popular that it replaced the Laserdisc format in the year 2000 (3 short years it took for DVD to end the release of new Laserdiscs), and replaced all videotape formats around 2006 including D-VHS and standard VHS. I started collecting a massive amount of both Christian and secular movie titles on the DVD format 20+ years ago. In 2006 when the better quality Blu-ray format came out I started to slowly replace many of my secular and faith based DVD’s with Blu-ray discs. I did the same when the ultimate reference quality 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format came out in 2016. At the Blu-ray.com website I have volunteered my time over the last 10 years and have written over 200 user reviews for both faith based and Christian Blu-ray titles. https://www.blu-ray.com/community/re...=bluray&u=3875 However, in recent years I noticed that there is a lack of demand for new release faith-based Blu-ray discs especially Christian Blu-ray discs. The culture is changing and people are less interested in Christian and faith-based Blu-ray discs. Even many Christian DVD’s that were released around 20 years ago are not even being re-released on the DVD format because of lack of demand (many titles remain out of print on DVD, with no new DVD or Blu-ray release scheduled). Yes, its true that streaming is more popular then both DVD and Blu-ray, and some Christian studios and ministries are getting away from all optical media and moving to mainly streaming. Some ministries still release a small amount of DVD titles but the major Christian and secular studios are not re-releasing a lot of classic faith based movies because of lack of demand. Finding faith-based titles on secular streaming websites is also sometimes difficult. The Christian community does have its dedicated streaming websites for both Christian movies and faith-based movies, but many people prefer secular Blu-ray discs by the massive evidence of new 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray titles being released for the mainstream consumers (both religious and non-religious people buy secular Blu-ray discs). My point is this is Blu-ray.com and if people want me to write user reviews for faith based and Christian Blu-ray titles then I well only be able to do so if there is enough demand to release those types of movies. One major problem is there is not enough communication occurring regarding new releases, especially for faith based titles. For example, I had no idea that the mini-series documentary The Days of Noah was released on the Blu-ray format on July 1st 2019 until by accident I came across the title in the Blu-ray.com database around 48 hours ago. There are several thousands of Blu-ray titles in the Blu-ray.com database. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-D...lu-ray/244369/ If I would have known about the title being released on Blu-ray I would have purchased this Old Testament faith based movie back on July 1st 2019. To make matters worse this Blu-ray title now is out of print and cannot be purchased anywhere because of lack of demand. The Old Testament Genesis record is the foundation of all scriptures including the New Testament historical record (Jesus read and quoted from the Torah when he walked the earth). Also, while some new release secular titles see 45% Blu-ray market share and 55% DVD market share. The demand for Blu-ray titles in the Christian community is more like 20% for the Blu-ray and 80% for the DVD (A larger percentage of the younger generation with PS4 and XBOX systems are more into Blu-ray discs when compared to the older generation that does more DVD watching when they are not streaming). I asked the distributor of the Blu-ray, why the Blu-ray was pulled off the market and I received the following email reply: Quote ““When Days of Noah was released in 2019 it was available in both standard DVD and Blu-Ray format. However, duplication costs to make Blu-ray was much higher then DVD and the demand for Blu-ray was only a small percentage of customers. Thus we decided to discontinue the Blu-ray option when our stock sold out." "We do not plan at this time to produce more Blu-ray as demand was too low. We will continue to have the DVDs available for purchase!” Last edited by HDTV1080P; 10-11-2021 at 11:49 PM. |

Where did you purchase it from? Do you have a link? Both links I posted show the Blu-ray disc is a pre-order for October (Officially all websites are claiming the official release date for the Blu-ray version and the DVD version being October 20th).
It’s a little hard to receive a Blu-ray version if no website is shipping them out yet. Still no jacket picture at Blu-ray.com for this release and also Amazon is not offering this title as a pre-order. On another issue, The Days of Noah that was released on Blu-ray on July 1st 2019 from another Christian ministry, they claim a total of only 2,000 Blu-ray titles of The Days of Noah were sold. Which I did not think was too bad of number. Sure its not as good of number as 250,000 Blu-rays that the secular family movie Sound of Music sold, but 2,000 Blu-rays for a new title is not too bad if that number is correct. Anyways I am very surprised that I cannot find one brand new or used copy of The Days of Noah on the Amazon or EBAY website. One would think for a 2 year old Blu-ray title that sold 2,000 copies, that a new or used one should be able to be found on Amazon or EBAY, but I cannot find any. I am curious at what well happen with the Chosen season 2 Blu-ray release. Well one actually be able to find a copy to purchase? Last edited by HDTV1080P; 10-13-2021 at 05:18 AM. |
