Default The Black Demon | Adrian Grunberg

Quote:
Josh Lucas will battle a giant shark in “The Black Demon,” a survival thriller from “Rambo: Last Blood” director Adrian Grunberg. The film was written by Boise Esquerra (“Blackwater”) and is set to start principal photography in December on location in the Dominican Republic.

Here’s the logline for this sea creature chiller: “The film follows oilman Paul Sturges (Lucas) as he takes his family on vacation to Bahia Azul. There, the coastal town he and his wife once knew has mysteriously crumbled and the locals are nowhere to be found. Paul starts off his day with a routine visit to inspect his nearby oil rig, but before he knows it, his entire family has landed with him on the rotting metal tower. From the depths of the ocean rises a massive megalodon known only by its name: the Black Demon. Under constant threat from this primeval species of shark, Paul must find a way to get his family back to shore alive.” -@

Not sure what happened to the this guy. It seemed like he was going to be a big movie star at one point but it didn't happen. It seemed like he disappeared. He was one of the few good things in The Purge Forever. He also did a good job on Yellowstone. Good to see him getting leading roles, hopefully the movie is good.

I think the back to back flops of Stealth and Poseidon really set his career as a leading man back for a while. I've always really liked him and it's great to see him getting more high profile roles again.

This poster.

The family just perfectly gathered together, like for a photo op, passively enjoying a Black Demon NOM NOM moment.

I saw it about a month ago. It's pretty bad. Melodrama family bs and the shark stuff is nothing spectacular. The Shallows is MUCH better.

It's playing at two Regal's near me and both of them have relegated it to a 9:30 PM showing. It's kind of annoying because if I were to drive about 20 miles to yet another Regal they have 4 showtimes a day.

Josh Lucas must be pretty hard up. He's way better than this "same ole, same ole" piffle deserves... I can't count how many times I've heard this same tired trailer soundtrack, which sure doesn't help sell it either. And then there's the generic title.

I was thinking about seeing this on discount Tuesday, but it is not listed. Today is the last day that it is playing. Oh well, hopefully redbox has it at some point.

Apparently this movie has a message that it's pushing. I saw a youtubers review that said in the title that he was pissed off.

Wasn't very good. Not enough of the shark and not enough kills. I did like the underwater scenes and the opening. The ending also took me by surprise.

The characters pray in one scene and there's an environmental message. I didn't feel it was being preachy; it just wasn't a good movie.

I didn't find any of the actors believable but it does have a megalodon.

There is an eco message which I didn't mind but the script was really poorly written. This has only had one showing a day since Friday and will be gone in a few days. I saw it last night and was the only one in the theater. It started off promising but fell apart pretty quickly. Still, I'm glad to see films get a chance in the theater. I didn't hate it but wished for so much more. 5/10.

This reminds me of The Meg movie with the prehistoric giant shark, which was actually an entertaining movie IMO.

I'd like to see movies with Killer Whales instead of always sharks, but they don't make them. What other large sea creature can attack people swimming in the giant ocean? Giant Squid. A large angry Blue Whale could be interesting. It would gulp people whole with their raft boats.

I’m a sucker for anything megalodon related. The Meg was very fun (looking forward to the sequel), but is this at least comparable to that flick?
