What do you all think will happen? I personally will not own a phone with a google os on it. No way. I think now that this is coming, Apple might finally get on the ball and give us some much wanted updates (cut paste, video, mms) etc etc. ![]() |

Competition between the iPhone and the gPhone can only be good for us as consumers. I think Apple was getting a little too cozy dominating the market and resting on their laurels so I hope this pushes all manufacturers to improve their phones.

the first phone is no iphone killer. in fact, i've very displeased htc would even make something so ugly. and apple is convinced simple things like mms and copy/paste aren't trendy enough, so even with android that won't change.
but darnit..i've started many a thread on android and nobody cared! care people...care! i'm waiting for the new snapdragon chipset to come out next year, phones with those chips will pwn everything today |

lol i know what it is man. long time owner of htc phones. but take a look at most of their qwerty slide phones. the whole thing slides and reveals the keyboard. this leaves something in your way, and it looks pretty awkward to get to some of the keys. its retarded and makes it look less sleek
much like this much better looking htc phone... ![]() |

I'm excited to see what this thing will do. I do wish they would have used the operating system in a more attractive handset. I don't see why a touch screen phone needs a trackball, it seems really redundant. Supposedly Samsung has a touch screen phone, also launching on T-Mobile, that is similar in looks to the Instinct but running Android. Could be another one to look out for. I'm hoping for the opportunity to get one of these suckers for free. |

it'll be on a handful of phones this year, first half of next year is when all the good ones will release. lets hope htc has one planned for next year as well.
but you gotta figure this will sell well for tmobile because its pretty similar to the sidekick |

TmoNews has just uncovered new specs and info on the phone. Here's what they've got so far: the phone is 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 inches, weighs 5.6 ounces, features a 480 x 320 HVGA display, sports 3G (obviously), GPS, has a 3.1-megapixel camera, supports up to 8GB of memory (though no format is mentioned), and will feature 5 hours of talktime with 130 hours of standby. Strangely, the phone won't do video capture (what?), won't have stereo Bluetooth, will require a Gmail account, and won't be sold at stores outside of a 2-5 mile radius of T-Mobile's 3G coverage areas. That last bit sounds a little odd to us, but we're guessing a lot of the functionality of this device will be shot in non-3G regions.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/22/m...e-t-mobile-g1/ http://androidcommunity.com/rumor-g1...ssor-20080922/ A forum user has tipped off Android Community on the G1 chipset. It appears the chipset used in the G1 will be made by Qualcomm, and is one of the company’s 7201 multi-core processors, a dual core to be precise. It is said to be more stable and energy efficient than most processors; however, unusually, the two cores are not the same. The first core is a speciality core dedicated solely to phone functionality such as making phone calls. The second core is a general purpose core intended for applications, in order to accommodate more application processing load. The end result should be less lag due to overloaded phone processors. According to the tip, clock speed for both cores will be the same. Because of this, overclocking the G1 will not have much of an increase in performance. There are reportedly still some problems with the multi-core setup that, under specific situations, may cause the phone to crash; Qualcomm is apparently “working around the clock” to fix the drivers at the root of this. |

Neither have I. I am just saying. I guess deep down I love my iphone and despise the fact that Google is releasing an os to run on phones. A lot of people will read "google" and go yeah, that must be good. When in reality, it may not be.
Ever since google started including it's stupid tool bar in almost any free application that would have it, I lost all respect. Desktop bar, widgets, so on so forth. No thanks. Remember, Android is from a company that is in perpetual "beta". Gmail, Grand central, so on so forth. They need to get their stuff OUT of beta before going to other avenues. I can see it now, your phone reboots, cuts off, doesn't work, so on so forth - googles response - it's in beta! ![]() |
