Toshiba Shares Rise As Studios Given Out of HD DVD

David Richards and Wire Services - Tuesday, 19 February 2008

Toshiba shares have risen while Paramount and Universal, the only two studios still exclusively supporting HD DVD, will be “immediately released from their exclusive commitments” if Toshiba, as tipped, pull the plug on the HD DVD format.

In the US a major retailer has been told that hit movies like Transformers which originally, was only going to be available on HD DVD will be made available on Blu-ray within days.

Thats simply what happens when companies drop money loosing programs and lay-off 50,000 people on the pay roll. It makes the company worth more.

within days! I didn't expect it that quick...although transformers and blades of glory...and others that were close to release before the announcement are probably sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be released. Open the flood gates paramount!

Am I the only person that didn't think Transformers was that great of a movie? I mean I'm sure it will look and sound outstanding, but I didn't care for the movie all that much.

I'll pick it up if it drops to 19.99 somewhere, but if comes out at 29.99, I won't touch it.

I would think it will be $24.99. Isn't that what it is on HD-DVD

I personally think BumbleBee should get an Oscar nod for best supporting.

Whats funny is this couldnt have happened at a better time. American Gangster and Beowulf were planned to be the last of 15 movies I wanted to get on HD DVD and now its ending at a great time because I wont be forced to get Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Cloverfield(though it sucked)

I didn't think it was all great of a film. Michael Bay is one of the worst storytellers out there. Too much sap where it isn't needed. He's big on the cheeze. He has a cheeze nob in the edit bay-when it's too normal-he just turns it up. But-i do have to give him the benefit of the doubt-he can draw a crowd which means he can get lots of money for his films. He does really well at breaking some boundaries-thus bringing to our home systems some of the best cgi as of yet. The interpolation was great on film. I'll prob rent it to just test out my system. We'll have to see. More excited about the other titles they'll hopefully pull out of the bag soon.

Strange, it's almost like they pressed those discs BEFORE they switched over to HD-DVD???

No movie is perfect and most people accept that as a fact. Every movie has its glitches
