Why does my reciever say.... - Blu-ray Forum

multi channel in when I am playing a regular dvd. I am connected through hdmi but I thought it only says that when you pick pcm on a blu ray.

I'm assuming your BD player is doing the decoding? When this occurs, the player decodes the signal then sends out as PCM over HDMI. The PS3 does this with all codecs. Other players can also bitstream to the receiver for decoding...

What are you using?

If you have the your BDP (PS3?) set to PCM it will send DD & DTS 5.1 from dvds as PCM. Set it to Bitstream if you want you AVR to decode DD & DTS.
