Has anyone seen this? It's a JP import. Any good?

Not surprising that the director behind Battle Royale 2 would find ways to further ruin Battle Royale.

It's not too bad for a post-conversion. It even has some added special effects and a new title sequence, too. It's worth checking out, although obviously this is not Avatar.
I am talking about the german release which is identical to the japanese release, except for the language options of course.

No English subtitles. However, it has German subtitles. With an Oppo 203 you can add English subtitles via USB.

What kind of cut does the 3D version include? It is listed as 118 min. The TC is 114 min, and the DC is 122 min?

The exact runtime is 1:59:09. It is based on the Special edition version with the basketball flashbacks. It has completeley new fancy openings and end credits and plenty of digital changes to squibs and different colours (again). Not sure where the runtime differs elsewhere in the movie, i don't know it inside out German 7.1 & Japanese 5.1 DTS MA
Only german subs on disc, not sure about online availablity of other languages.
The 3D is quite ok, not spectacular, but not a write-off either.

In case anyone is interested, the only version I've seen available is the German one with German subs. The 3D looks decent and the extra dimension works quite nicely. Thanks for confirming my suspicion that they added extra cgi blood for the 3D edition. I find it a little better than Predator and T2 because of the extra work they put in.

One of the best blu-ray players ever made. So good, that there are Chinese boxed media players that are literally Oppo clones without the blu-ray drive. So good, that they are being sold for $1500 used on eBay.

We have an Oppo - what's all the fuss about? thread where any useful Oppo information can be posted.

Though the more active Oppo thread is this one: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=300349

And Oppo have left the market anyway, which is why people are paying silly prices: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=304404

Is this your way of telling me to stop posting off topic stuff ? It was so subtle I almost missed it

Interesting threads though, thanks.

Maybe with a Panasonic? Definitely with the Chinese discless Oppo clone boxes if they are still available. Not sure you can do it with any other player. I watch all my 3D movies ripped to PC so I was able to find a matching English subtitle track to play. I don't think that there are exact English subs for this special edition. So like my other German sourced discs, I spent a lot of time aligning the English subs to the Japanese audio. If I remember correctly I think I used the German subs as a guide even though I don't speak German.

As a sidebar, has anyone successfully muxed the English audio track from the US release with any of the 3D releases of Battle Royale?

BTW, this is merely a technical question, as I have no interest in debating the merits of watching movies as originally released versus dubbed...

There's only one 3D release which is the special edition, and the US audio would need some work because the SE has a longer intro.
