Default Return to Silent Hill

This is incredible news. I love both the first film and second game.

Return to Silent Hill 2 pre-production with director. Christophe Gans.

Should be interesting, but please make it scary if that's possible like the PS1 games, Silent Hill 1 and 2. The first live action film is a good attempt, but for me, it's not scary. Maybe Rhada Mitchell didn't look vulnerable enough, or the story was too focused on the mystery of the daughter.

Likely a new cast, as these are new characters, different than Sean Bean and Rhada Mitchell of SH1 and SHRevelations.

He didn't do the second one anyway; It was from MJ Bassett (who did Solomon Kane from a while back).

Meant Gans' film there. Sorry, lol. That other one stank too but I will say the casting for Heather Mason was pretty good.

We also got a young Jon Snow as an awkward emo!

Both films got the look of the games down really well. Now if they can make them scary, that would be great. These games are focused on the story that these films try to compress down to 90 minutes as the main challenge.

The horror moments in the games are really what take the games to the next level with the horror atmospheric music, creepy sound effects, bizarre monster designs and neglected buildings.

Sean Bean might make a cameo with Rhada Mitchell (spelling?) as secondary characters if they really want to link the films.

It's cool a new Silent Hill film is being made, though I really hope the director inserts some major new horror cinematography, pacing and angles to amp up the horror x10 compared to the first film. The first two films make the main hero seem too safe. They don't feel like they're in major danger for some reason. The monsters need to be more aggressive or something.

The 2nd one, had some decent jump scares in 3D with the spider and the claw woman. Some great visuals too at times. Heather, she could've delivered a better performance IMO.

Sounds good. Would be nice to get the first two on UHD too.

I've never played any of the games, or watched the sequel. The first Silent Hill movie has atmosphere to spare, but once it stops to explain what is going on... oof. I also think the husband subplot was totally unnecessary and pretty much spoils what is happening with the mother/daughter.

A lot of horror movies have lackluster scripts, but this one has a script that is flat-out bad.

you have to have that moment to explain to people who haven’t played any of the games. there is no way you don’t have that moment in a $50 million movie.

I'm looking forward to this as well. Gans' SH film is good as far as video game adaptations go.

If the film is going to be based on SH2, I don't know what he's going to do about the monsters since since he already used them on the first movie.

Yeah, it got off to an OK start and appeared to be heading in the right direction. But, it sort of falls apart and just gets dull. It’s a little long too and overstays it’s welcome. All kinds of atmosphere but that alone can’t carry a film.

Yes, pretty much this. I tried watching a few times but always got bored after about 35-40 mins.

The first film is a guilty pleasure of mine. As far as video game films go, it's certainly one of the better ones in my opinion. Not perfect by a long shot, but there's a lot it does right.

The second film.....the less said, the better.

I'm eager to see how they handle the 2nd game- it remains one of my favorite games of all time. I think they know how beloved it is and how much pressure is on them to get it right. I worry a little when they say things like "we wanted to modernize it", as that can mean any number of cheesy, shlocky things. But I have faith. As long as they stick as closely as possible to the story already laid out and don't employ any cheap gimmicks, then I think it has the potential to be really good.

Absolutely. Incredible game. The Theme of Laura alone...

True, but... "burn the witch"? That's the best they could come up with?

Even if that is straight from the game, it's ridiculous.

Silent Hill 1. Bad voice acting aside, Listen to the music which builds the horror mood really well. Then look at the camera angles and the final scene with the demon babies. First time ever playing this on PS1 years ago, one of the most dreadful horror game experiences, next to the level with the demon Laura in Evil Within.

Now compare it to the nicely done movie live action version. A real appreciation for matching the game, with one major exception... The demon babies are not stabbing at the hero and are clearly CGI, which seriously removes a sense of dread for me. If they're just pawing at her, that's not scary at all. They're really not a threat. Thankfully, the other monsters in the film are much better, but this was a missed opportunity to not get the demon babies right. Same with the CGI beetles. Not scary. Get rid of CGI monsters when you can have real ones if possible.

I also hope they stick to real creatures made practically, rather than CGI creatures. Amp up the horror much more (the hero is shown to be seriously vulnerable and afraid of the villain after her), Christophe Gans, and this could be great for Return to Silent Hill the movie.

The ironic part is that almost all the creatures in the first movie were done practically- all the monsters, including the children, were played by people, but they touched them up with so much CGI that it's hard to tell. I think the Gray Children were played by a single actress and then just multiplied, but still. They specifically hired dancers and people who were trained to move their bodies, but so much of their performance was undoubtedly lost with the CGI touch-ups (not to mention just the sheer size of the roles- each monster, save for Pyramid Head, only has a single quick scene).
