Ha! When I saw the title I though you were throwing down a "who would win" poll between Clint and Bruce Lee. I would've voted for Bruce!

F Spike Lee. He preaches about equality for blacks, yet he's a total discredit to his race and "cause" by picking fights for absolutely no reason. He's just as racist against white people as anybody who's racist toward blacks.

Or Denzel Washington, or Cuba Gooding Jr . . . crazy

Whenever I see the Hanes commercial with Cuba Gooding Jr. I always have to say to my wife, "Remember when that guy won an Oscar?" What happened to him?

I picked Lee....

the lack of black actors in mainstream movies is a serious flaw in hollywood.

It comes down to strereotypes. Adding a black actor to the cast may have thrown off the message. As soon as one puts a black actor in a film like this, it takes on too many angles. In the heart of being simplistic, I can see why they would have left out this angle.

On the other hand, one has to ask why not break the stereotypes... is it adding a black character or adding a character who happens to be black???

Would adding a more diversified cast have made that much of an impact?

I think Lee picked a fight with Clint to set an example.

Yes Spike Lee makes "black films". They are predominantly filled with black actors. Not all of his films are like this. His a very good director. He's a smart guy. He knows what he's doing. He's trying to break stereotypes... It isn't easy...

Why is it that there are so few black actors in television shows that aren't "black shows"? Tyler Perry makes "black shows". Where are the black leads in white sitcoms?? Dramas do feature a more diversified cast, but sitcoms feed off of stereotypes...

So with a drama that Clint made, it should have been easier for him to introduce a character who happens to be black ( i mean it could have been an ansillary character)... I don't think it hurt the movie, but it could have made it more accurate.

Casting for movies should be done based on the story line. For example, if a certain story was to be set in Siberia in the middle of the 19th century, a black cast would certainly be out of place. Conversely, if a story similar to the "Last King of Scotland" (about Idi Amin, the dictator of Uganda) is to be shot, I would expect to see a number of black artistes.

So, in this light, when Spike Lee makes a movie that tells a tale centered around black characters, it makes sense to see black artistes play those roles. That is not being racist...

My $0.02.

Good point. But the question then goes to which movies Hollywood studios pick to make. What movies make more? a spike lee film or a clint eastwood film??? What kind of films do they make?

I like your view, but it leaves out all the dirt...

ok i agree that there aren't alot of black actors in movies, but i pretty sure the main reason is that most the black actors are to prejudice to be "good" actors. I mean, spike lee, all he can complain about is how blacks aren't in big movies. People like him are the reason they don't. Heck i wouldn't put him in a movie, i would even consider not putting any blacks in a movie because of his stupid complaints. You see if we all would just shut up about it and be REAL people we wouldn't have to worry about it.

and yes, true, it shouldnt be about "how many black people were in that movie?" it should be about the story. If its a story not involving black people, GET OVER IT, thats how it is.

Clint all the way. Lee is just trying to attract attention because no one is paying attention to him any more.

The issue about Clint not using black actors in Flags of the Fathers...this is actually accurate because blacks did not fight along side of whites for the most part in WWII. Perhaps Ang Lee should complain because Clint did not use any Chinese/Taiwanese actors in Letter from Iwo Jima.

It would be a different story if Clint was making a war movie about Iraq and did not use any black actors.

Spike Lee is just mad because Clint's 3 or 4 movies have made more money than Spike's 50! Ha! Ha!

is everyone here saying they don't see hollywood stereotypes???? That's Spike Lee's point. Obviously, nothing in hollywood is a completely accurate portrayal of history. But from what I've read, black people played an integral part in the war. People need to open their eyes and minds and not play into hollywood's hands.
