You can't pick one of these icons over the other. They are both amazing actors and each of them has his strengths and weaknesses.

I like both actors although my favorite is John Wayne. Wayne had the good fortune to be directed by the Likes of John Ford, Howard Hawks and William Wellman, appearing in many classic movies. Clint has made some classic films too, however, one could argue that he is more versatile because he has been able to branch out and direct. The films he has directed are simply outstanding.

Each was an icon in his generation. Who is the comparable icon for the current generation?

They are both legends in my eyes. I'll have to pick Clint because he's my favorite, but I have to give John Wayne MAJOR credit where credit is due.

This was a very tough call for me, because I like John Wayne & Clint Eastwood both. I had to go with Eastwood on this, because not only is he an awesome actor who can/could portray anything from action roles to dramatic roles, but also an Oscar winning director . In regards to John Wayne, he was a legend in Hollywood but its always Westerns I associate him with.

Wow, I didn't think there were so many fans of both. I like both but the duke was better in my opinion.
