The UHD disc will be 100 GB. I believe this is Happinet's first UHD Blu-ray and HDR is mentioned as a feature of the format, but it is not clear whether HDR will feature on this disc at the moment.

Supposedly, the new 1080p Blu-ray (obviously, also from the 4K master) will only be sold in the UHD/BD edition, and not separately.

Collector's Edition Extras:

Quote:

The TLE restoration doesn't have HDR. Torsten Kaiser is vehemently against it for this film.
Audio specs don't mention 4.0, so I'm guessing it's not the Synapse restoration.

I'd be over the moon if it's the Synapse...

TLE... meh

I'm hoping it's the Synapse restoration as well. But, until screenshots or promotional shots are releases, who knows.

Yikes. Well it’s my favorite movie of all time so I’m probably just gonna have to do it, I suppose.

Are we sure about HDR? I'm going by google translate of course, but it looks like details say what 4K is capable of, not necessarily that this disc has HDR.

Special mention
June 25, 1977 Japan First Release (Toho Towa Distribution)
※ Spec: 3 layers
※~Please be careful~
・ Ultra HD Blu-ray playback compatible equipment is required for viewing.
・ [To enjoy high quality 4K Ultra HD]
4K Ultra HD supports playback in 4K resolution, HDR (high dynamic range) and wide color gamut. For viewing, in addition to Ultra HD Blu-ray playback compatible devices, it is recommended to watch on a 4K / HDR compatible TV.

As a Japanese speaker, I can back this up. It does not specifically state "there is HDR," but rather, these are the benefits of UHD as a format.

Now, many Japanese releases make special note of HDR in their descriptions, but here it doesn't. Now, it does not rule out the possibility of it being on the disc, but it is rather unusual if it does have it.

I'll wait until some Japanese tech sites make posts about it. Maybe then they'll go into detail about it.

OMG, could it be?!! Suspiria on UHD with HDR/WCG? I pray it's the Synapse transfer...

Suspiria is a top 5 all time favourite, so I'm willing to spend a considerable of money on this.

Smells like the TLE restoration.

I'd love to be wrong.

I just own a old DVD release of this. I would love a 4K of these. Is the Synapse Blu the best version to get as of now?

A lot of people would say yes. A lot of people would say no

I'd say the Synapse peepees all over the TLE restoration (I had the Italian UHD and got rid of it)

I wish I could think of a single instance when a Japanese uhd didn't state specifically that it had hdr, and ended up having it. They usually state they have it, according to the JP uhd's I've bought anyway. Good thing I like surprises.

So you won't be bothered if it turns out not having HDR?

i had the chance to talk to synpase at horrorhound convention a few weeks ago and they said there restoration is not going to be used for any uhd.

They said if they do decide to do one it will be through there own company, not license it out. So this is deff not synapse restoration (which is the best one ).

Hope they do get a UHD for there version.

Thanks for clearing that up. I can now forget this release. If money is holding Synapse back, would crowdfunding be an idea?

As for this Japanese release: TLE it is then (with no HDR).

Ah okay then. No need for another copy of the TLE restoration since I already have the CultFilms UHD.
