Default I Did Get My Ps3 Yesterday

I received my PS3 that I purchased off Ebay yesterday - I found out I need a computer keyboard with a USB connection - the controller is hard to use as a keyboard. I want to download some of the games from the PLaystation Store.

I bet the price was seriously jacked up. Over $1,000 dollars, i believe.

For me, the PS3 as of now is not even worth $600, for the 60gb version. Games are lame, Linux is cripled, Blu-ray playback is missing 720p output for all those who must have 720p output, or deal with 540p.

The only reason for me to get PS3 is Japanese RPGs that Xbox 360 can't hope to get.
But I'll wait till later, to see if they fix the Blu-ray 720p issue. But then again Sony does want consumers to buy their stand alone players. The original PS2 only outputed in 480i, now new PStwos output 480p (even though it's slapped on and suffers from scanline issues.)

Don't worry Blu-ray will still spank HD-DVD in sales this holiday. PS3's ship with COMPOSITE cables. What I have said before has come true. There are probably a whole lot of morons watching Blu-ray on composite. Just for Sony's sake, I hope these people don't have good vision either as composite Blu-ray will look no better than DVD on composite. In fact a 480p DVD player hooked via component will look much better than Blu-ray on composite. Note: Composite is your standar AV cable, it can only do 480i and the croma is inbeded in the Y signal thus creating very blurry images. Even DVD is losing detal with composite. For every technically avid fourm prowler there are probably 10 more numb nuts that would not even fathom what we talk about.

Do yourself a favor. Got HDTV? Use HDMI or Component. You can find < $60 HDMI cables at Walmart, or you can use a PS2 Component Cable. I got my Component Cables online for less than half what Sony charges for official.

As for which mode to watch it in, it all depends on your TV. Flatscreens: DLP, Plasma, LCD. It's best to veiw at 720p, unless you got 1080p TV (requires HDMI).

If you got the old Tube type known as CRT. It's best to veiw in 1080i. Like your old SDTV in the past physicaly displayed at 480i, CRT HDTV does the same for 1080i.
Unlike flatscreens which downsample 1080i to 540p.

You obviously pay way too much attention to M$ press releases .

I think its worth that much simply for the blu ray player capabilities..but hey thats just me. I already have more movies than games. Resistance kicks some ass bro. Im not sure if you own one and dont believe its good, or your just speaking based on other stuff you've read. resistance is as good as fps's get on a console (there will always be a special place in my heart for pc fps's). Dont really care to much about linux, but I never heard that it was "crippled". As for the 720p issue...with my ps3 I can set the output to 720p. The only thiing that I find annoying about the ps3 is that I have to go between 720p to 1080i when I want to play a movie or play rfom.

This is a tricky thing. Most people with a tv (very very old sets excluded) except composite. Thats why they shipped with those. Even if it shipped with an hdmi cable, I would have still needed the hdmi>dvi converter so it didnt matter to me. Since the av output connection is the same as the ps2, a video zealot with their ps2 (and have the component video), they already have an hd connection with their ps3.

walmart...what about monoprice.com. I paid more for the shipping than the cable..lol
