They couldn't go wrong with either. Another title I'll happily upgrade.

Nice, never got the Criterion. We'll see which audio is included here, then I'll make a decision.

EDIT: First of hopefully many Frankenheimer UHDs.

At this point we can assume just about every MGM release that was initially done by Criterion on Blu-ray is going to get a 4K UHD from Kino and soon lol

Criterion has only themselves to blame for all these MGM titles getting away from them. I'll take what I can get these days...

Kino Lorber is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful label I've ever known in my life.

Great news to see and especially interesting that it will have an hdr grade. I’m sure the audio is the same mgm master source.
Me preparing for what Kino could possibly screwup:

I mean, UHD rights are separate from blu-ray rights, same as DVD being separate from blu-ray. I don't really think they are "blaming" themselves for anything.

Not so sure about that. Kino only has one more UHD to announce from their current MGM deal, so any more is gonna depend on what kind of new dela they can finalize.

Lol there’s no way Criterion aren’t kicking themselves for letting the UHD rights to these titles slip away from them.

That being said, this is a definite purchase.

You might wanna wait until it’s confirmed that Kino hasn’t screwed it up. They rarely do replacement programs.

Meh - their releases have been out for years and have sold well for them. They only release 5 movies a month, so they can't get to every title. If they really wanted to upgrade any of the titles, they'd have tried to already. Look, they wanted to do Double Indemnity on 4K, and they got it before Kino could.

Perhaps they regret not grabbing the rights just to prevent other labels from releasing superior versions, but I bet 4Ks of most of these weren't their priority.

I've been out of the loop a little regarding Kino's UHD quality control and revisionist tendencies (Long Goodbye)......are they ok to preorder again or is it still case by case?

Hard Target's problem was fixed. Silence of the Lambs has a minor color issue (that is from MGM's master) that wasn't fixed. And people have issues with Body Snatchers' encode. Other than that, I think the rest are problem-free. The two most recent releases, Some Like It Hot and The Great Escape got great write-ups, and from I've seen, haven't been called out for any flaws.
