Default Rubicon AMC's Newest Series

AMC's NEWEST ORIGINAL SERIES: RUBICON

Update:First episode is premiering this Sunday June 13. AICN has a trailer for it here:
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45402

Quote:
AMC production on Rubicon, its newest original drama series, began on Monday, March 29 in New York City. The show is a conspiracy thriller starring James Badge Dale (who earlier this year headlined HBO’s The Pacific) as an analyst at a New York City think-tank who is thrown into a story where nothing is as it appears to be. Henry Bromell (Homicide, Chicago Hope, Brotherhood) has signed on as showrunner. The one-hour, 13-episode weekly series is produced by Warner Horizon Television and premieres this summer. (Watch the Rubicon promo.)

"Rubicon is an incredible story about trust and power born out of the desire to find a way to capture the intensity and mystery of the best conspiracy thrillers in a series. It is a show that appeals to everyone who has some skepticism about the relationship between big business and our government, which we think is pretty much everybody,” said Joel Stillerman, SVP of original programming, production and digital content for AMC. “Our stellar cast and creative team allow us to continue to present premium television on basic cable."

The series cast includes James Badge Dale (The Pacific, The Departed), Oscar®-nominated actress Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow), Dallas Roberts (Walk the Line, Flicka, The L Word), Jessica Collins (The Nine, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Christopher Evan Welch (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Lauren Hodges (Law & Order), and Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket, Natural Born Killers, The Sandlot).

AMC’s Stillerman along with Susie Fitzgerald, senior vice president of scripted development and current programming and Jeremy Elice, vice president of original programming, will oversee the development and production of the new drama.

Rubicon’s pilot was produced in New York City and was directed by acclaimed film and television helmer Allen Coulter (The Sopranos, Hollywoodland, Damages, Nurse Jackie) and Kerry Orent (Michael Clayton, Rescue Me) is the producer.

Greenlit to a full series order in June 2009, Rubicon marks AMC’s third original series. In summer 2007, AMC debuted its first original drama Mad Men, which went on to receive unprecedented critical acclaim and garner history-making awards recognition, including back-to-back Emmy and the only series to ever win the Golden Globe, three times in a row, for best drama series on television. The series returns for a fourth season this summer. In January 2008, AMC premiered its second original series, Breaking Bad, which landed on countless critics' top ten lists and also won back-to-back Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actor for Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of lead character Walter White. The series returned for its third season on March 21.

Sounds great and after seeing Dale in the Pacific I am interested to see what he can do with this

Sounds very interesting. AMC is really pursuing some intriguing new shows, between Rubicon and The series is set to debut August 1st. I wish the video preview was still available....

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. It will suck though if this show is awesome, and the next episode doesn't air for two months, lol.

this show seems to be a very good. Is this meant to be a long running series or a mini series?

It's meant to be a long running series. Though from the reviews I've read a lot of people do like this they just wonder about it's longevity based on how painfully slow this show moves at times. Apparently the first 4 episodes are all about paced the exact same and I might just let the series collect up and eventually watch it all at once, or give it a few episodes and decide than. The reviews seem very mixed, everyone seems to agree Badge is great in the role, and the camera spends a lot of time watching his think with no dialogue but everything i've read keeps calling it "painfully slow" which doesn't exactly make me feel like I must watch this show, lol.

I don't know who called it "painfully slow" cause it definitely wasn't, although it did have a slower pace then say Breaking Bad. I really enjoyed the first two episodes though. Interesting mystery.

‘Rubicon’ sets AMC ratings record
Quote:
This is a surprise: AMC’s two-hour "Rubicon" opener had a strong start out of the gate, becoming the network's most-watched original drama series premiere ever, grabbing 2.5 million viewers.

Granted, it's only AMC's third series, but still: This is kinda in the ballpark of the recent "Mad Men" fourth season opener, which drew 2.9 million.

The number is unexpected since the buzz on "Rubicon" was relatively quiet and AMC had already aired the pilot once after the "Breaking Bad" finale.

Though this is only one episode into the show's run, Charlie Collier, president and general manager of AMC, gave a "Mission Accomplished" quote:

"With last night's premiere of 'Rubicon,' AMC is now three for three with our original series," he said. "'Rubicon' joins our hit series 'Mad Men' and 'Breaking Bad' -- cementing AMC's Sunday night as the place to go for premium programming on basic cable."

I agree. I watched both Episode 1 and 2 this past Sunday, and while I wouldn't describe it as painfully slow, it definitely is paced a bit slower than I prefer. I enjoyed the show somewhat, but not sure if it is one I will really get into. I enjoyed some of the main characters, but I just felt like the show is lacking the drive to really hook the audience, at least for me personally. With Breaking Bad, for example, I was sold after 1 episode, and with Rubicon, I feel like I would have to invest quite a few episodes before I ultimately may catch the 'fever.'

I agree it was slow paced but I was really into what was going on, what they were doing and who these characters are one of the few shows I took a shot on hopefully AMC doesn't dump it now that I care about it

Great looking show can't wait till next week
