NOT ALL ALIENS COME FROM SPACE! From producer/director Sean S. Cunningham, the creator of the Friday the 13th and House films, comes this action-packed underwater sci-fi thriller starring Taurean Blacque (Hill Street Blues), Nancy Everhard (The Punisher), Greg Evigan (B.J. and the Bear), Miguel Ferrer (RoboCop), Matt McCoy (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), Nia Peeples (North Shore), Cindy Pickett (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) and Marius Weyers (The Gods Must Be Crazy). Far below the surface of the unforgiving sea, the daring crew of DeepStar Six are explorers in a forbidding world of impenetrable darkness and unimaginable pressure. They have invaded the icy fathoms into which no human has ever ventured. Their mission is to establish a top secret Navy base on the ocean floor. But something’s down there and the crew of DeepStar Six are about to make a startling discovery—there’s no escape from the terror of the deep. DeepStar Six will plunge you into the depths of fear… save your last breath... to scream.
Quote:
A group of U.S. Navy engineers, led by Capt. Laidlaw (Taurean Blacque), are building an underwater base when they inadvertently disturb the lair of a gigantic creature. The monster attacks, and the crew, including lovers Collins (Nancy Everhard) and McBride (Greg Evigan), tries to evacuate, but the facility is badly damaged. After the exterior is breached, the increasingly desperate people become separated from one another, and the creature begins to pick them off one by one.

I enjoyed this but personally not as much as Leviathan. Maybe I wasn't in the mood. Either way I wonder if it'll be like that movie where the 4k doesn't really improve it much. Guess we'll see.

I haven't seen it yet, but the trailer has a few scenes with some nice visuals that should look quite good with DV/HDR.

The last of the underwater horror films from 1989. I never grabbed the blu-ray. Great things.

Haven’t seen it either and since the film surely needs plays out most of the time in a darker environment, their encode should be okay even with HDR. Leviathan and especially Bad Lieutenant were pleasant surprises.

Least I'll have a slipcover to match Leviathan and The Abyss.

When I saw the announcement I found myself saying I just bought it when it was released to Blu-ray. Looks at the calendar and it been 4 years!

I'll be picking up the 4K.

Leviathan is overall much better, especially the cast.
Except for Miguel Ferrer, the rest of the Deepstar Six crew, is pretty forgettable.
But it's still a fun B movie, with a really goofy looking "crab" monster

I liked this well enough and never bought the blu-ray, so I'll pick this up to compliment Leviathan.

Awesome. Hell yes. I knew this was inevitable. Sure it’s campy 1980’s underwater creature-feature cheese, and it belongs in my uhd collection for that reason. Agreed, I hope the director (and/or Kino) doesn’t botch some aspect of the mastering. I smell some risk here….

I've always really had a soft spot for this one, so I'm glad it's getting a 4K release.

I bought the old Kino Blu-ray (with the Slipcover) when it came out, but got it pretty cheaply... so no real regrets upgrading it again.

Movies like this, Leviathan, Prophecy, Congo, Silver Bullet, etc. is what gets me most excited by 4k. Need somebody to crank out more Hammer films and where are the Harryhausen films in 4k?

I saw DS6 and Leviathan more often from their TV edit versions than the theatrical cuts.

Strong memories seeing the VHS covers in the rental shop when browsing the Sci-Fi section.

The Abyss remains the best of the underwater thrillers from that era and remain so to this day.

It is great that DS6 is getting a 4K release, perhaps there is hope that Underwater will receive a physical 4K release, which I personally prefer.

Great but I already own Kino's great previous blu ray. Kind of wished someone like Arrow would have picked this. This deserved the Arrow limited treatment, with a hundred pages booklet and all. One of my all time favorite horror movie but not quite sure if i'll upgrade to the 4k, seeing as this seems like mostly the same as Kino's previous release. :P

Hopefully Deep Rising gets released in 4K, a much better underwater monster movie than DS6 and Leviathan imo.
