This is probably going to be a big release and tie in with other Purple Rain era releases which should be coming later this year through the estate, WB themselves, Apple TV Doc/Concert on the First Avenue 83 gig and a host of other physical media products.

Save those $$$

Kinda surprised at this, since IIRC for at least one scene some of the elements are so damaged that it is barely DVD quality on the Blu-ray.

Wondering whether they did a new 4K scan, or that it's an upscale of the 2K scan used for the 2016 release.

Let's hope they found previously unseen footage in the vaults.

I'd wager a guess its new from the negative for the 40th.

I can't think about Purple Rain without thinking of the Prince dream I had moons ago. Prince was still alive and performing on TV. The stage looked like the movie poster except also a castle? Anyway the set came crashing down on top of him and there was fire, and commotion. It looked like 9/11. Then it flashed HE DIED on the screen in big red letters in the Fire Walk with Me font and it looked like this:



I was in shock and ran down a huge grand spiral staircase. The room at the bottom was an enormous empty ballroom. A hairdresser was cutting some man's hair and she turned around the chair and he had no face. Then I woke up.

Anyway, Purple Rain.

As much as I b!tch and b!tch and b!!!!!!!tch about OG audio, which I'd love to be included here and NOT be a downmix (thanks Warners!), the audio has always struck me as rather flat and dull on this flick so I'd love to have some kind of balls-out remix just to showcase the music.
