Default How much are folk here paying for internet?

Out of curiosity,

is anyone just paying for internet service?

I pay for standard wifi / modem rental $23 plus the internet package plus sales tax/maintenance fees - this month it jumped to a little over a $100 ("what ... the ... f*** !!")

is it supposed to that high?? is that a standard pricing JUST for 'internet'

I feel like I'm getting ripped off here.

I'm with a company that's about to be swallowed by its mother company.

Funny thing is, the daughter company (where I'm at) charges 69 euros a month for a fiber connection with 200mbit up and down.
If I stop my service with them and go to the mother company and ask for 1gbit up and down I pay 55 euros a month.

But yeah, $100 is quite a lot. What's the speed?

600 down is quite good and dare I say overkill. Are they offering anything cheaper?

I’m in the country so my only option has been DSL from my good friends at Verizon. 3mb down!

That was until Elon Musk came around with Starlink. I pay $120 but it is so worth it even if I had to buy the equipment.

My plan is 1200 Mbps with Xfinity. I do own my own modem, so I save a little there. However, it is pricey. I bundle it with cable and together it is $200 a month. The only high speed internet option I have in my area is Xfinity, so I have little choice but them. Furthermore, I work from home and my son does a lot of gaming on his computer, so having 1200Mbps gives me peace of mind.

I pay $100 a month for Cox 1 Gbps down / 35 Mbps up.
I think it’s normally $10 or so higher but they gave me a temporary discounted price.

I own my own modem.

About $55/month after taxes; fiber optic 200 mbps up/down.

I had slower speed (50/50?) for $30 more a month and they wouldn't up grade me as they were advertising about a year ago. So, I canceled service and got a 5G wireless provider for $50 a month. However, it wasn't as dependable, so after a month I switched back and they gave me the upgrade at the discount price as a "new user".

$70 (including surcharges) for 400 mbps

It would've been higher but I call my cable company every year to ask for a new promotion.

My roommate's bill is about $80, but we split it evenly, so he and I each pay $40 a month.

I feel like I'm getting ripped off here.

So you're paying $77 a month for internet service and $23 a month for modem rental?

I'd say buy your own modem and save $276 a year.

Oh you guys think that's bad, we're at $70/month for DSL that's prorated for 1mb!! Yup 1mb. We lose internet at least once a week for anywhere from a blip for a few mins to hours multiple days. Signs for fiber coming were all over town over the last year or two and they ended it right at the bottom of our hill (we can see it from our house) and won't come up here!! It's so ****ing close! Sad part is our bills went from $40 to $70 over the course of 18 months. For shit internet!!??

The local company has 50mb (fiber) for $79 but they still haven't extended their maps up here yet, and again end at the bottom of our hill!?!? With Biden's push for internet I was going to call them again on thursday to see if they can get the money to come up our hill and saw they just got bought out by some big company buying up all the local phone companies?!?! Shit.

Way to freaking much! $130 a month. It went up $30 in the last few months.

I see T-Mobile home internet is $50 a month and never goes up. I will get that after I pay my latest and likely last bill with them and get T-Moble.

That is close to what I pay for Starlink! Who is your ISP and what are your speeds?

The company was originally RCN. But they got bought up and its astound Broadband now. Its gotten way worse since they took over. I have no idea what the speed is. Sure its got to be good for what i am paying,. that's just internet alone. No Cable or Phone.

https://www.speedtest.net/ is a free test site.

Looks like RCN (Astound),is based in NY with their highest plan costing $60 for 1500mb. That’s rather good but yeah they’re clearly taking advantage of you. I would call to see if you qualify for any promotions.

I live in PA. I called before about deals and said I didn't have the right equipment to get a better deal. Best they could do was like $4 off my then $113 bill.
