Danielle Deadwyler has really been killing it lately (I Saw the TV Glow, The Piano Lesson, Carry-On) and I'm sure she'll be great in this Blumhouse thriller

Danielle Deadwyler to Star in Blumhouse Thriller ‘The Woman in the Yard’

The Woman in the Yard will see Collet-Serra and Deadwyler reunite after working together on in the Netflix thriller Carry On. “I’ve been trying to find the right project to work on with Jaume, in our system, for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler,” said Jason Blum.

Deadwyler, repped by Paradigm, Play Management, and Ziffren Brittenham, earned major awards recognitions for her performance in last year’s feature Till. Her upcoming credits include the Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson from director Denzel Washington, where she stars opposite John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, and A24’s I Saw the TV Glow, currently in the middle of its festival run.

I read this script a few years back, except then it was titled The Man In The Yard (the gender swap makes sense having read it).

The scenes with the Man (or in this case Woman) were creepy, but the rest was extremely generic and the twist ending is stupid.

I think she says "Today's the day" in a gentle voice rather than a scary one. Maybe she's a nice lady trying to warn them of danger that day.

Reminds me of the Woman in Black films, the original 1989 film, and the two remake sequels.

"Today's the Day". Her voice is a nice voice. Shouldn't it be creepier? Like a raspier voice maybe at least? It looks interesting, but not scary.

The idea with the shadows is interesting. How do you diffuse shadows so they're less sharp? Dim the lights but then she thrives in darkness probably. I think a Lamp shade tends to diffuse and soften shadows.

The trailer gives away/kind of spoils something very important that shouldn't be spoiled, but maybe I'm wrong. One of the characters, the

[Show spoiler]parent, was probably hoping someone would take her kids away as she probably can't afford them for some reason due to financial burdens, and the demon heard her wish. I think that will probably be revealed later in the story as a guess.

This is the second film I saw this week (Locked being the other) that felt like a 20 minute idea that was stretched out to feature length.

...and this is why Hollywood is cratering. You used to have to wait three MONTHS to see a movie at home (even huge flops).

Thanks. I thought the woman in the Yard seemed

[Show spoiler]more real than ghost-like. Thanks for the heads up on that. I also prefer the supernatural genre with an evil character like this. I'll check this out on video though, as it seems interesting, though too many movies in theaters in March to see all 21 of them in only 31 days and about 4 weekends.

Sounds like this wasn't scary. The trailers, she seems like a nice lady with a gentle voice. Not scary at all but maybe that's part of the trick.

Maybe, maybe not. But I'm sure you'll agree that being available at home in three weeks means LESS tickets sold.

Seems to me it would have been more suited to a streaming release.

Universal, so April 15th VOD is pretty much confirmed.
