Andy Serkis finally starts production on his Animal Farm movie

It’s been reported that production on the Animal Farm movie is underway at Cinesite with Andy Serkis directing for Aniventure and his company The Imaginarium. First published in 1945, George Orwell’s novel chronicles “a group of farm animals who rebel against their human owner in hopes of creating a society where they can be equal, free, and happy.” Nicholas Stoller (The Muppets) penned the script and will also produce the film with Adam Nagle, Dave Rosenbaum, and Jonathan Cavendish. In a statement, Andy Serkis said:

The challenging journey to bring this extraordinary story to the screen has been finally rewarded by the opportunity to partner with the brilliant team at Aniventure and Cinesite. Together we hope to make our version of Orwell’s ever relevant masterpiece, emotionally powerful, humorous, and relatable for all ages. A tale not only for our times, but for generations to come.

Andy Serkis’ Animated Film ‘Animal Farm’ Sets Sales With Goodfellas Animation – Cannes Market

EXCLUSIVE: Goodfellas Animation has boarded international sales on Andy Serkis’ animated adaptation of Animal Farm, based on the iconic novella by George Orwell.

The company will introduce the film to buyers in Cannes next week ahead of its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June.

The Goodfellas team have a strong animation track record, having previously handled Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli slate, beginning with Spirited Away and including most recently Academy Award-winning film The Boy and the Heron, as well as The Little Prince, Red Turtle, Summit of the Gods, and Where is Anne Frank.

“We are thrilled to board this original and modern take on George Orwell’s timeless tale, which we are convinced will appeal to children and adults alike. After handling such classics as The Little Prince with great success, we truly believe in the commercial potential of the film internationally,” said Goodfellas CEO Vincent Maraval.

The original classic animated film was a very interesting story about how to govern a farm, overthrow the farmer, and then all Hell arriving.

I hope this Animal Farm remake goes to theaters and not direct to Netflix...

"...beloved fairytale"? Well, that's one way to describe an allegory of Russian totalitarianism.
Just from the pictures above I can see this is not Orwell's novel. Those cutesy-looking pigs are not signposting the bleak, nihilistic ending that is the point of the book: revolutions fail.
