New PS3 model and/or price cuts seem unlikely for now

With the recent win over the 360 and the win for blu-ray over hd dvd, it seems sony isnt too worried about changing anything for the time being.

Seems to me however since people didnt mind paying 499, that they should bring out a new model, but whatever.

Reuters followed up on this statement by asking Steinberg if this means all the pricing pressure predicted by analysts hadn't actually materialized. Steinberg simply replied, "It's leading us to think so." The PS3 finally managed to outsell Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the US in January, and Steinberg pointed towards the upcoming "AAA" titles along with the recent Blu-Ray format victory. Clearly, the preceding is going to help PS3 sales this year.
"On a macro level, we've got leverage to turn that into a trend. Whether or not it continues going in February, the way I look at it is us structuring the chess board to our favor, which is without question happening," added Steinberg. "The year of the PlayStation 3 started in fall 2007, I think it will be an extended year, we are feeling positive momentum."

yeah..it seems they know they have the upper hand right now and theyre just waiting until the 360 and/or wii make a move

yeah, they set that up to temper our expectations so people don't expect anything like $100.00 price drop...

they might even keep it the same, but add a game and a DS3...

The way the prices are right now , and even at launch (of course) are well worth the money. If theres 1 thing you buy in your life time & its a Ps3 (lol) you can be sure your money was well spent & you got WAY more then your moneys worth.

Apparently, the price of the Xbox 360 dropped starting today in Canada.

the Canadian Toys R Us web site is showing $50 reductions in price for the Xbox 360 Pro (now $349.99) and Halo Edition - (now $399.99). An informant at a Canadian Toys R Us has also told us that the Xbox 360 Arcade has been reduced $20 (to $279.99) and the Elite has come down $50 (to $449.99 -- all prices are in Canadian dollars, eh?)

If the price cut also comes to the U.S., we may see a $50 drop on the PS3.

I doubt we will see a huge price drop on the Ps3 since they just came out with a 40gb so people wouldnt have to pay 600 dollars
