Default The Hot Wheels Movie

Main Edit:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...-justin-933236

'Star Trek Beyond' Director Justin Lin Tackling 'Hot Wheels' for Legendary

"Justin Lin is revving up Hot Wheels.

The Star Trek Beyond filmmaker has closed a deal to develop, direct and produce, via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, a feature based on popular car toyline from Mattel.

Lin and Perfect Storm will also have an option to co-finance the project.

A Hot Wheels movie has been made, despite iterations being in development since 2003. McG was at one point attached to direct and produce for Columbia before it landed in the garage of Joel Silver and Warners. Legendary picked up the rights in earlier this decade. Simon Crane came on board to direct it in 2013 but the project has been sitting idle since 2014.

Lin’s boarding injects some nitrous oxide into the project; Lin, his partner Troy Craig Poon, and Legendary will begin a search for a writer to take Hot Wheels back to the starting line. The project is in the early development stages and will not be Lin’s next movie.

Hot Wheels is one of the world’s biggest toy brands, with Mattel claiming that it is the best-selling toy in the world, with more than 5 billion toy cars produced since 1968. Mattel creates nine million cars every week and sells 10 every second.

Legendary’s Alex Garcia will oversee for the company.

Mattel is slowly making inroads into Hollywood and has Max Steel, based on its action figures, opening October 14. In development are movie projects based on Masters of the Universe and Barbie, both set up at Sony, and Monster High, set up at Universal.

CAA-repped Lin, who reinvigorated the Fast and Furious movie series into a full-blown franchise, directed and was a producer on Beyond, which was one of the better-reviewed films of the summer and course-corrected the Star Trek franchise for Trekkies.

Perfect Storm is developing Space Jam 2 on the film side and at least four television projects it is developing, including a new take on the police drama S.W.A.T. "

I don't really see a Thread for this so here it is.

Remember way back, there was that piece of news floating around that there was going to be a new Hot Wheels movie?

Here's the link (there's no updates or comments) :
https://teaser-trailer.com:443/movie/hot-wheels/

At the time of that link, this was in 2011.

I can actually remember saving a bunch of concept artwork that was released to show off how the movie would have looked like, but the movie never happened, at least, not yet.

Here are the concept artworks I saved from long ago:

Death Valley Road:

Swamp Track:

Snake Pit #1:

Snake Pit #2:

Motor City:

Motor City Garage:

I am uncertain as to why this movie never happened, from the concept it looked like it could be an incredible movie. And who knows, maybe there will be a Hot Wheels movie in the future?

Edit:

I found an update back in 2013, here:
http://www.slashfilm.com/simon-crane...for-legendary/

Apparently Simon Crane was going to direct the movie and would be done by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with Universal.

Edit 2:

Found more news here:
http://www.animations.com.br/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=994

It is in Portuguese so here is the translation:

[Show spoiler]
Illustrator reveals conceptual arts movie Hot Wheels

In his blog, the illustrator Phil Saunders has shown in the last days of an art than would have been the film Superman written by J.J. Abrams. In the same space, Saunders now publishes interesting conceptual art inspired by the film of the franchise toys Hot Wheels.

Saunders does not leave out, of course, the ramps and the profusion of overpasses. Check out the gallery.

The illustrator worked on the project at the time Hot Wheels still at Sony Pictures. He comments on the blog: "This is another film that made it out of the stage of development. It was basically a Wizard of Oz, but with a hint of orange plastic instead of a yellow brick road."

Warner Bros. acquired the license after Sony gave up the rights, then the film so far is in standby compass, produced by Joel Silver and screenplay by Matt Nix (Burn Notice telessérie). Director McG was attached to the film at the time of Sony and not to remain. Likewise, after the failure of Speed Racer, Silver should not be too excited to take Hot Wheels paper.

I liked the conceptual arts, but seeing so you can see packs the film was not forward within Sony, they did something realistic Demi, a fast and furious in the future, the cars are very simple, and aqueela photo asmulheres as there does not seem Hot Wheels ...
... They did not exaggerate more, since it would be unrealistic to want to want to "cheat" ... lgo exaggerated, but with a good script and less colorful than Speed Racer.

And even with the failure of Speed Racer, I believe the flme happen, just not very asemelhar Speed because Warner would not spend money for nothing by buying the rights of Unversal if he had no interest in doing the project ...
