Oh, hell yeah! Been waiting for this George Stevens film to hit regular Blu, but 4K is a welcome surprise, despite seeing they're touring the new restoration in repertory theaters. And Sony is guaranteed to be a great disc

Crazy to think this is another making the jump from DVD to 4K. I would have thought Sony, or perhaps Criterion would have released it on BD by now. Love that Sony are putting out so many classics on 4K.

Sony is just cranking them out now. I can't be mad at it. Happy to add it to the collection.

P.S. Not a huge fan of that cover. It looks like a lower quality reproduction of a painted piece of artwork.

Great news! Wonder what "restoring director George Stevens’s original version" means? Are they talking about the restoration, or is this a new cut of the film?

For anyone in the NYC area, Film Forum are doing a huge retrospective for George Stevens starting on October 4th, and The Talk of the Town's 4K restoration will be part of it:

https://filmforum.org/series/george-stevens

Penny Serenade also has a new 4K restoration. I wonder if Paramount are planning a 4K release of it, or perhaps licensing it to a boutique.

This is straight from IMDB (i know, i know):

“The AMC television showing of this film omits the actual moment, shown in the complete version, in which 'Ronald Colman' is actually informed of his Supreme Court appointment.”

Could it be that? I saw the film not that long ago, but i can’t remember if such a scene was in the cut i saw.

Anyway, great news, even if sony’s reasoning for why some films get standalone releases whilst others come in expensive boxes still baffles me.

I know there were two endings where Jean Arthur ends up with one or the other. Maybe it's that?

Looks to be one of the original movie posters.

I guess so. The slipcover does look of lower quality than that image. Maybe the physical copy won't have those issues.

EDIT: It's evident if you compare the clothing between the two images.

Zoom in on the slip and you can see the folds of the poster. They had to do some airbrush work to hide them or Cary Grant would have one going through his face. You can still see it on Coleman’s neck. We will see if this is the final product or gets more cleanup before release.

They certainly did some digital reconstruction. The text covers more of her arm on the slip than the poster. And yes, you can still see the folds on the slip.

I don't want to make it sound like I'm complaining, I just noticed that the slip art has a few issues and I also hope it's not indicative of the physical product.

Sony is known for doing great transfers and encodes, and lousy cover art Their MODs of Man's Castle and Once To Every Woman look so good on disc, yet the cover art is amateur hour. If that's the trade-off, I'll take it
