Red face Another Kaleidescape thread

Kaleidoscope inc. Uncompressed lossless 4K media purchases. As good as cinemas get. Start your own home theatre. Hardware costs a lot but hopefully comes down if they scale. 80-150GB. 65-100+mbps 6mbps loseless audio.

It will never come down to scale as the masses are more than happy with compressed streaming. If most people cared about quality, discs would still be thriving. K-Scape can only exist as a tiny niche.

Funny how with those insane prices K-Scape has none of the remastered licensed titles from Kino, Shout, Arrow, 88 Films, etc. I own. I guess you're limited to just overpaying for the big studio stuff.

This may be a stupid question since I don't make digital purchases, but is even possible to play these at 24 FPS? Because when I use a streaming app my TV stays locked at 60 Hz.

If it's not possible, I would never ever prioritize streaming, no matter the quality.

Sorry, no. I'll keep my discs, thanks.

Also, that's too expensive for what it is.

I read this as the start of physical 8K media.

What streaming app do you use? Because that's not how it should be. Get an Apple TV. Of course they can play 23.975fps.

Kaleidescape- a box with about a 1000% markup relative to its capabilities and storage capacity of other systems. Their entry level box isn’t even 4K capable. Add another $1k to the price if you want 4K. If Apple ever decides to deliver higher quality downloads with lossless audio K-scape’s market is gone overnight

Wish I read the OP before throwing my entire collection in the trash. Now the discs are all scratched up and barely playable.

(Just kidding, many of them arrived scratched up and barely playable)

Kaleidescape could opt to become a more mainstream movie streaming service, but they are content with being a premium movie digital distribution service.

A smaller customer base with larger profit margins for the product in contrast to a broader customer base with slimmer profit margins is how Kaleidescape wants it.

If I could build my own system or at least add my own storage to one of their units and just add their DRMed ecosystem onto this drives, then I would more seriously consider buying in.

Until then, I will just look on with envy when certain titles feature far superior quality to the UHD BR encodes.

I don't know if I've seen a movie on Apple TV. I've used the others, though (HBO Max, Netflix, Paramount+), and my TV doesn't let me activate Cinema Smooth (its option to display 96 Hz and 4:4 pulldown) like it does for UHD/BD content.

Why are you using Cinema Smooth though? If there's one thing that'll mess with framerates/display, it's that.
