Default Will Criterion be releasing its catalog in Blu-ray?

With Blu-Ray being the dominant HDM format now, has anyone heard whether or not Criterion is going to start releasing its catalog in Blu-Ray?

Isn't it safe to assume that eventually everything will be on Blu-Ray? If it's going to replace DVD the way DVD did to VHS...IF, in fact, that happens...we're pretty much guaranteed that anything released on DVD will find its way to Blu-Ray.

Criterion has stated that they've done tests with Blu-Ray and have been very pleased with the results. At this point, it's Blu-Ray or DVD. One is the future and one is the past.

I don't know, the folks over at Criterion are an odd bunch of people. Have you been to their forum? People over there are still in some sorts of HD denial.

Nope it's a part of the Vista series which is owned by Hollywood pictures. They're released by Disney.

I've heard otherwise, from people who know staff at Criterion. Are the people on the forum the people who make the decisions or fans?

I know that they have been doing all of their transfers in HD for quite a while now and have been waiting out the format war. They've done tests with Blu-Ray and were "very happy with the results".

In the meantime, we'll have to settle for the Tartan release of THE SEVENTH SEAL (which I hear is stunning).

They are waiting till they think they can sell enough copies on BD. They are not a big company that can afford many failures. With most of their catalog or the titles they own rights to being at best niche releases, they have to be cautious. I think though it's only a matter of time until we see Criterion titles on Blu-ray. If I had to guess I would say late in the year near Christmas.

You though FOX's msrp on Blu discs was high? Criterion will make FOX catalog titles look like a bargain in comparison.
