Gahhhh! I appreciate Criterion's position on the matter but a Teshigahara Box Set
(Face of Another, Woman in the Dunes & Pitfall) is coming out this summer;
I really wish they were on BD. Then again, by the time Criterion puts them out
in next gen format I'll probably have gotten my moneys worth out of the dvds. Sigh.

Do you have a link for that? I've gotten tired of waiting on netflix to have these available.

If you want Criterion to release on BD, you gotta let them know.

These movies look really interesting. I think 'Ill get them on DVD until Criterion decides on the winning format (Iwonder what that will be ).

Default Any word on wether or not Criterion titles will be released on BD?

I was wondering if there was any news on anything from Criterion being released on BD? They have some really good classic movies I bet would look great on Blu Ray. Anyone else think so?

If they went Blu-ray that would be interesting. My favorite Criterion is Videodrome and that's a universal release.

I several Criterion releases that look great on DVD and can only imagine their release on blu. Some that I have from them that I would love to see on blu is The Rock, Naked Lunch, WC Fields, Royal Tenebaums, Rushmore. those are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

No word on that yet. I think they are waiting to see what happens in the war.

Isn't this like when "Original Master Recordings" (half-speed mastered records) tried to release CD's? Is there going to be a big difference between a normal Blu and a Criterion/Blu?

No, I don't think there will be different Blu versions. But Criterion has made a reputation in remastering films meticulously (at least that's what I gather from the online reviews), so that would be the perfect start for a BD encode.

They do have a great reputation for restoring older films, so I wonder how amazing they would be on Blu Ray. All of the Akira Kurosawa films looked great, especially the black and white films. Wonder how a black and white movie would fare on BD.

Default Criterion and Blu-ray Disc?

Now that the "winner" is clear, how soon before Criterion gets on board and gives us a Blu-ray Disc release?

I would think that the BDA might help initial ramp-up costs to get the ball rolling: Criterion's support would be an enormous boon to the many "classics collectors" who are sitting out the HD game waiting for "classics" to be released in HDM before they join in.

I'm reviewing my screener for the Criterion disc of The Last Emperor (soon to be posted at dvdfile.com) and you can imagine the one thought constantly going through my head... "Why do I have to watch this on SD DVD when it ought to be Blu!!!???!!!"
