Default Help needed piecing together speaker system

I finally found an Onkyo 605 in the stores for a reasonable price ($389.99+tax), but now I need the speakers to go with it. I've got a weird hangup about buying things online, so I'd rather not do that. I also don't have the money to buy an entire 5.1 or 7.1 system, so I'm trying to buy it piece by piece. I found these polk m10 speakers http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-...oductDetail.do that I thought I might get as the first pieces of my system. What do y'all think? Any suggestions for something else? I'm trying to stay below $150 if possible, and definitely below $200.

I looked at those, but I was afraid in the long run they might be underpowered.

In home theater and specially HD home theater - you shouldn't and I stress shouldn't skimp on the speakers. Speakers are the only component that you actually hear. You can have that fine Onkyo amp and attach it to sorry speakers and it will sound...well...sorry. The polks are alright for entry level speakers. I will answer back with some others to try. What stores do you have in your area?

Does anybody have these Klipsch speakers? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1091101345658

If so, would these be good pair of speakers to start building a speaker system with?

IMO the HT experience is 60% sound, 40% picture, so why spend 90% (assuming you've a $2000 TV) on picture and 10% on sound? if you want a great bargain, try out these BIC Acoustotech HT-75 towers ($280 for the front pair), that will be a decent start:

If you're on a budget, you should get over that hang-up about online speakers. The good ones, like Aperion and Axiom, give you 30 days in home trial.

For the money you're going to spend on a budget, you cannot come close to the quality you can get online.

If you don't have a budget, the world's your oyster.

My advice, start with some nice bookshelves and a center which you can get together from Axiom for $555 and then when you're ready you could upgrade the fronts to some floorstanding models and move your excellent bookshelf speakers to the rears.

For subs, Hsu Research and/or SVS is all you need to know.

Narrow down the budget and you could get more specific recommendations.

Bookshelves for front - $330/pair - http://axiomaudio.com/m3ti_main.html
Center - $225 - http://axiomaudio.com/vp100_main.html

I pieced together a Polk setup a while back. I have the Polk M10's for my surrounds, Polk M20's for the mains, and CSM center speaker along with a 100-watt Polk subwoofer.

If you can afford $200 for mains, I'd recommend the M20s. They're entry level towers. Same drivers as the M10's but in a tower style speaker. They sound REALLY good and are extremely well-built.

I don't know how Polk managed to build a speaker this good at a $100 price point but my ears thank them every day for it.

I recently made a topic like this about my 705 if you wanna read it, they gave some GREAT helpful advice dude.

I cheaped out when I got my theater in a box combo, and I won't cheap out ever again.

Piece it together - it might be more expensive in the long run, but omg it makes up for it in quality.

I'm doing sub first, and then getting everything else individually.

Also if you have time read up on Speakers 101 on the top of this page, I took a whole half hour and read through that carefully - GREAT read dude.
