"Rocketman" - Tom Hardy starring as Elton John

I would never have considered Hardy for the role, but I'm interested to see what he does with the part.

Tom Hardy ("The Dark Knight Rises," "Inception") is now officially confirmed to be starring as Elton John in the biopic "Rocketman" at Rocket Pictures and Focus Features.

Lee Hall ("Billy Elliot," "War Horse") penned the script which will combine the true story of John's life with fantastical elements from his songs.

The film will start with his life at age 11 and continue through adulthood with his songs providing musical backing. Hardy's deal was closed after a lengthy search to cast the role.

Michael Gracey directs the film which begins shooting next Fall. Steve Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish will produce.
