Can the XBox 360 get a built in Blu Ray or add on Blu Ray player? - Blu-ray Forum

Do they need to get permission? Pay a fee or something. And rumors are flying that they will get one by May. I would think that Sony would want to wait a longer time before letting a competitor like Microsoft on board. I don't know how this works and was just very curious. I have a PS3 and am very happy that I choose correctly. Not just for a game system but for a HD Format.

Sony doesn't have the main say-so on whether Microsoft can have a BD Drive for their 360. Its the BDA that has that authority, which Sony is part of. So they'd still have some say-so. But I doubt Microsoft would have one out as quick as May. Maybe by August or September, but not May. They would have to get permission, manufacturing, shipping, etc.

I think Microsoft will stick to their guns and ride out this generation with the console and products as-are. The next-generation for X-Box is due up in only 2 years, and you'll probably see them incorporate something better than a DVD drive then.

If the 360 gets a BD add-on, they'd need a firmware that loads BD-Java and not the MS-Java crap. Would that actually happen?

i'd like to see the faces on the MS coders that have to make it do something like that.

It's extremely unlikely that the 360 will ever have a built in BD-drive. However there is talk about a BD player add-on. But I doubt this will happen considering M$ is lookin to push Downloads. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
