Default why do greys look weird on my tv

ive got a high quality tv its a samsung lcd 1080p the only thing that id complain about is that greys arnt displayed properly they have like a dithering effect in other words say if an item of clothing was grey it would look grey in places but in other places of the item it would be a bluey or redish colour a mixture.Wondering if anyone else has the same problem im sure they do.Worst films for it are under siege with the grey of the battle ship and noticed it in total recall and also on some ps3 wallpapers so nothing to do with the transfer of the films. Also had it on other tvs ive owned which were a different brand maybe its just a flaw of the technology

Is this out of the box settings? What model of samsung is it? xx71? or xx81? LCD TV's are not color accurate and may vary even on the top LCD available today. I would check your movie to see what it appears like on a plasma. I have under siege I'll take a look. Any scenes in particular? It's more difficult to get accurate colors on an LCD panel since you start with white light (and hopefully an accurate white light source at that) and using filters LCD subtracts colors until it has the desired color to display... while plasma is just r + g + b in varying intensities. That you noticed it I wonder how extreme the problem is... but so far to date... LCD's suck for giving you the right colors... altho... they will give you a lot of some color... just not the right ones... hehe. Plasmas are making leaps and bounds in technology even now... if you ever do consider a new TV... think of plasma in the future for best color reproduction.

is it safe to assume you're connected by an HDMI cable?

It very well might be an issue in the Service Menu as to why greys look off. But that would be for a professional to look at...but the best you can do for yourself is to adjust the picture settings to its best potential by using the calibration discs or other methods.
